Makie Sasaki is a student in Class 2/3-A at Mahora Academy, identified as the 16th student in Japanese alphabetical order. Sporting pink hair and green eyes, she stands 152 cm tall, was born on March 7, and has blood type O. She resides in the Mahora Academy Dormitory and actively participates in the rhythmic gymnastics club. Academically, Makie consistently struggles, holding the second-lowest test scores in her class, earning her the nickname "Baka Pink" as part of the "Baka Rangers." Her difficulties stem primarily from her airheaded and childish personality. Despite this, she excels as a rhythmic gymnast, demonstrating exceptional reflexes, reaction time, and expertise with implements like the ribbon, ball, clubs, rope, and hoop, placing fourth in a major competition before traveling to England. Makie maintains close friendships with classmates Yuna, Ako, and Akira, forming the "Sports Girls" group and sharing a room. She frequently engages in a rivalry with Ayaka Yukihiro, largely fueled by their shared interest in their teacher, Negi Springfield. Initially viewing Negi as "cute" with a sisterly attitude, her feelings evolved into romantic affection over time, as confirmed by Akira in chapter 288. Her involvement in supernatural events begins early during the Library Island expedition, where her gymnastic skills aid the group's survival. She becomes instrumental in Evangeline A.K. McDowell's plans, serving as the first "puppet" to infect other Sports Girls. After Negi defeats them, Makie retains residual effects but lacks full memory. During the Kyoto trip, she joins the "Kiss Negi" game, teaming up with Yuna and later Ayaka; both receive failed Pactio contracts from Negi's paper clones. Following Kyoto, Makie bonds with Negi during mutual training periods, gaining insight into his determination as she prepares for gymnastics tournaments and he trains in martial arts. This understanding leads her to intervene, preventing Asuna from disrupting Negi's critical battle trials against Chachamaru. At the Mahora Festival, she assists in the class haunted house, performs with the gymnastics club, and intensifies her rivalry with Ayaka—competing for Negi's attention and collaborating in a hidden costume contest. During the "Mages vs. Mars" battle, Makie, Ayaka, and Chisame are drawn into the network by Chisame's Pactio; Makie and Ayaka transform into magical girls to combat Chachamaru's creatures while Chisame secures the network. Initially uninvolved in Negi's trip to Wales, Makie joins Ayaka's separate group traveling to the United Kingdom. She locates Negi's group near Tower Bridge in London and later secretly follows them to the Magic World gateway alongside other Sports Girls and Natsumi. After passing through, the group is detained by Magic Country security. Caught in the conflict between Fate's group and Negi's, they are scattered when Fate destroys the gateway. Makie and Yuna find employment as delivery girls for a tavern, witnessing "Nagi Springfield" (Negi in disguise) in a fighting tournament. Unlike some classmates, they avoid enslavement and receive fair treatment, later arriving in Ostia. In the Magic World, Makie forms a Pactio contract with Negi in Chapter 289, receiving the artifact "Armatura Quinquiplex" (Wielder of Five Weapons): Liberum Lemniscus (ribbon capable of extraordinary extension), Bombus Globus (ball creating explosions upon impact), Frango Stipes (juggling clubs that multiply, float, and increase in size), Cleaving Ring, and Capturing Rope. She also displays potential magical aptitude, performing a beginner's fire spell and altering breast sizes within a dream sequence. In the spin-off "Rakenzarn Tales," Makie appears with other classmates in Chapter 6, traveling to the Da'fur region to investigate Negi's disappearance during a plague, collaborating with Kyuu's brigade in Riveras Town.
