TV-Series
Description
Guiche Chevalier de Gramont, fourth son of Marshal Gramont from a prominent western Tristain military family, first appears as a vain, cowardly student at the Tristain Academy of Magic. His runic epithet is "Bronze" in the anime and "Brass" in the novels. An earth mage progressing from Dot to Line level, he wields an artificial rose as his wand and dotes excessively on his giant earth mole familiar, Verdante.

Guiche's personality revolves around aristocratic vanity and habitual romantic pursuits. Despite his committed relationship with Montmorency de Montmorency, he frequently two-times, notably with freshman Katie. This leads to public exposure by Saito Hiraga and a duel. Guiche summons brass Valkyrie golems but is decisively defeated when Saito's Gandálfr runes activate. Though initially resentful, this defeat sparks his gradual development into greater dependability.

His military heritage gains relevance during the Albion invasion arc, where he accidentally strikes down antagonist Cromwell with a stick under the Ring of Andvari's influence. This incidental heroism hints at his potential. By the "Princess no Rondo" season, he shifts from comic relief to capable leadership, co-founding the Ondine Knights of the Water Spirits Corps as Captain, with Saito as his deputy. His command demonstrates improved strategic skill and courage, contrasting his earlier cowardice.

Guiche's central relationship with Montmorency mixes mutual affection with his persistent flirtations. When protecting Montmorency from attackers during the Lake Lagdorian Water Spirit mission, he fights alongside Saito, displaying loyalty despite their rivalry. His friendship with Saito solidifies, evidenced by Saito including him in group invitations with "Guiche and the others."

He participates in later critical missions, such as confronting the Ancient Dragon with Saito and Louise. His earth magic grows versatile, summoning complex constructs for combat and utility. Historically named for Armand de Gramont, Comte de Guiche—a similarly vain 17th-century French figure—Guiche's favorite food remains soufflé.

Across all seasons, including "The Familiar of Zero F," Guiche's trajectory shows measurable growth: from a validation-seeking superficial noble to a responsible commander invested in his friends' safety and Tristain's stability. His persistent womanizing flaws are counterbalanced by demonstrated loyalty and leadership in pivotal moments.
