TV-Series
Description
Malicorne de Grandpré studies magic at Tristain Academy of Magic and serves in the Odin Knights under Guiche de Gramont. Princess Henrietta de Tristain granted him the title of Chevalier. He possesses blonde hair and a stout build from overeating. His wind affinity manifests in magical abilities, and his owl familiar Cubasil assists with message delivery and espionage.
During the familiar summoning ritual, Malicorne summons Cubasil and later mocks Louise for summoning Saito. He observes Guiche's romantic troubles and directs Saito to the duel site. At the Familiar Exhibition, he entertains the audience by showcasing Cubasil's skills. Following Fouquet's theft, he remains vigilant alongside fellow students.
Malicorne fixates on Irukuku (Sylphid), Tabitha's dragon familiar in human form, unaware initially of her true nature. This infatuation persists even after discovering she is a dragon.
His personality evolves across portrayals. The light novels depict military experiences with Guiche and Saito fostering disillusionment with superiors and growing confidence. This fuels jealousy toward Saito's romantic success, leading to inappropriate conduct including a near-assault on Tiffania. Dissatisfaction with his girlfriend and newfound power exacerbate his arrogance, mirroring Saito's earlier flaws but lacking redeeming traits. He considers himself superior to Saito despite similar shortcomings. Anime depictions emphasize his comedic role, using Cubasil for espionage like installing peepholes with Guiche, resulting in comically oblivious moments. He gains competence gradually, aligning with the knights' collective development.
Trivia notes his portrayal as a verbal masochist in the light novels and his English voice actor's real-life marriage connections.
