Description
Malicorne de Grandple is a noble student at Tristain Academy of Magic and a classmate of Louise de La Vallière. Hailing from the de Grandple family, he specializes in wind magic, focusing on air manipulation spells. He possesses blonde hair, blue eyes, and a stout physique, frequently linked to his tendency to overeat.

He participates in key academy events, including the familiar summoning ritual where he successfully summons an owl named Cubasil. He witnesses Louise's summoning of Saito Hiraga and mocks her apparent failure. During academic exercises, he utilizes wind magic such as a "far vision" spell. His familiar, Cubasil, aids in tasks like message delivery and surveillance.

Malicorne observes the public conflict involving Guiche de Gramont, Montmorency, and Katie, laughing at Guiche's humiliation. He later joins the Undine Knights, serving under Guiche's leadership. At the Familiar Exhibition, Malicorne and Cubasil perform before Princess Henrietta. He also engages in covert activities with the Knights of the Water Spirit, including attempts to spy on female students bathing.

His character development differs across media. In the light novels, military experience and interactions with Guiche and Saito initially bolster his confidence. However, this evolves into jealousy over Saito's romantic success, fueling increasingly inappropriate behavior. He makes unwanted advances towards characters like Tiffania, driven by entitlement and a belief he deserves attention despite their discomfort. This moral decline forms a corruption arc, presenting him as a foil to Saito by embodying inferiority complexes and unchecked ambition without redeeming qualities. The anime adaptation retains him primarily for comedy, omitting his darker developments and focusing on lighter moments like his affection for Cubasil or his unrequited crush on Irukuku (the human form of Tabitha's dragon familiar, Sylphid).

His relationships include serving under Guiche in the Undine Knights and harboring a persistent, unreciprocated crush on Irukuku, initially unaware she is a dragon. His frustrated romantic pursuits contribute to his character. By the series' conclusion, he achieves the rank of Chevalier under Princess Henrietta. His personal growth remains ambiguous, contrasting with his professional advancement, particularly in the novels where his ethical regression is evident. His narrative role shifts between comic relief and cautionary tale depending on the medium, highlighting themes of entitlement and the consequences of unresolved insecurities within the academy's hierarchy.
