Description
Rina Tennōji is a first-year Nijigasaki High School student and member of the school idol club's subunit QU4RTZ. Her image color is paper white, sometimes depicted as gray. Rina struggles to convey emotions facially, often appearing expressionless and potentially antisocial. To communicate, she relies on her "Rina-chan Board," a sketchbook where she draws faces representing her feelings. For stage performances and activities needing both hands, she utilizes the advanced "Auto Emotion Convert Rina-chan Board." This technological device, developed with input from Ai Miyashita (who also helps draw the expressions), detects her facial muscle movements to display appropriate emoticons.
Shy and prone to nervousness, Rina actively works to improve her communication by engaging more with friends. She deeply admires Ai Miyashita's confidence and sociability. Despite her challenges, she persists, aspiring to become a school idol who makes others smile, hoping this will eventually help her express emotions naturally. She joined the club after an invitation from the protagonist in the ALL STARS storyline, alongside Ai and Ayumu Uehara. Rina collaborates with Famitsu App, discussing idol activities with Ayumu and receiving guidance from Ai.
Academically, she excels in science and math but finds Japanese class difficult. Her hobbies and skills center on technology and creation: developing apps, operating gadgets like quadcopters, and working on tablets or laptops. She enjoys arcade and video games, has a pet robot cat named Aran, and is fond of animals.
Through school idol activities, Rina gradually gains confidence. She participates in monthly rankings, expressing gratitude to supporters and acknowledging frustration when not placing first, viewing such emotions as part of her growth. Her long-term goal is hosting handshake events to interact directly with fans, though she worries about managing the Rina-chan Board during them. In later game bond episodes, she considers revealing her face to the protagonist, symbolizing her personal progress. Her dream is to one day smile with her real face alongside everyone she has inspired.
Physically, she is the shortest main character at 149 cm, with pink hair, yellow eyes, and a slim build. She typically wears a blue hoodie instead of her uniform blazer and carries a marker for her board.
Rina appears in various media: the anime series "Nijiyon Animation," its second season, specials, and the OVA "Next Sky"; manga like "Nijiyon: Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Yonkoma"; and video games including "School Idol Festival All Stars" and "Tokimeki Roadmap to Future." Merchandise such as acrylic stands and apparel references these appearances.
