TV-Series
Description
Sōshi Minashiro, son of ALVIS fortress commander Kōzō Minashiro, was groomed from childhood to succeed his father. This isolated upbringing forced him to shoulder the devastating truth that alien Festum had destroyed the world, a secret kept from other Tatsumiyajima Island children. His early life included a close friendship with Kazuki Makabe, fractured after an accident where Kazuki accidentally blinded Sōshi's left eye, rendering him incapable of piloting Fafner units.
Unable to pilot, Sōshi serves as ALVIS's tactical commander within the Siegfried System. This role links his consciousness directly to Fafner pilots during combat, requiring him to coordinate battles and endure their sensory experiences and pain, particularly Kazuki's. His isolation and duty-focused life contribute to a stoic, unapproachable demeanor, yet he maintains deep loyalty to protecting the island. He shares a unique psychic bond with his younger sister Tsubaki, who powers the island's systems as its core.
During the original series, Festum assimilated Sōshi at the end of the Fourth Operation Azure. He was later reborn through an assimilation process, discovered by Kazuki and others within the ejected cockpit of the Fafner Mark Nicht amidst green crystals. Two years after this rebirth, he appeared physically altered, with longer hair tied in a ponytail and lacking his original scar. This reincarnated Sōshi retained fragmented memories and a connection to his past identity, often seen staring at the ocean while expressing curiosity about the world beyond Tatsumiyajima.
In *The Beyond*, three years after rebirth, Sōshi lived on an island resembling Tatsumiyajima. He experienced dreams featuring figures resembling Tsubaki and an unidentified male. His desire to understand the outside world drove him to use a radio for communication, defying warnings about external dangers. He established contact with an entity masquerading as a human, which later triggered a Festum attack on his community. During this attack, he witnessed Kazuki destroy a Festum mimicking Tsubaki, leading Sōshi to vow to kill Kazuki upon seeing the resulting crystals.
Throughout his existence, the original Sōshi's consciousness intermittently surfaced. His spectral form appeared to his reincarnation, transferring the scar to the new incarnation's eye before vanishing. Flashbacks depict his childhood interactions with the first generation of Fafner pilots. His name reflects his role: "Sōshi" meaning "general officer," and "Minashiro" combining "all/everyone" and "castle."
