Movie
Description
Rina Nishio is assigned to the second-generation pilots group. She initially operates as an operator within the Central Dogma Command (CDC), monitoring combat systems and supporting senior pilots against Festum threats before transitioning to a pilot role.

She commands the Fafner Mark Neun, later upgraded to the Mark Neun Kai and nicknamed "Izanami." This unit sports a light brown exterior and standard Nothung-model dimensions. It features armaments like a unique two-handed flamethrower, the Salamander, effective against smaller Festum strains, alongside a GARM-44 machine gun, Railgun, and Durandal handguns. The Mark Neun's ultimate weapon is the Medusa Laser Cannon, two large cannons mounted on its back. During combat, she awakens Super Dimensional Power (SDP) that amplifies weapon strength, mirroring the Mark Sein's amplification. This SDP enables the Medusa to assimilate other weapons or autonomous attack drones like the Island's Norn, significantly boosting firepower.

Rina exhibits an energetic and confident personality, though she experiences emotional vulnerability concerning island security and family. She maintains a close but frequently argumentative relationship with her twin brother, Akira Nishio. She initially opposes his involvement with the Human Army expeditionary force, distrusting the organization. Her protective instincts extend protectively to junior pilots. She admires senior operator Maya Toomi, seeking her approval through diligent work.

Her development includes participation in multiple critical operations. During the Fourth Operation Azure, she co-pilots the Zero Fafner with Sui Kaburagi due to their compatible SDPs. While piloting the Izanami in this operation, she suffers partial Festum assimilation, resulting in a three-year coma. Sui Kaburagi regularly visits her during her coma and rescues her from the Izanami's cockpit moments before its self-destruction activates. Her awakening reunion with Sui shows increased closeness, including her use of his first name, hinting at a deepened relationship.

Following recovery, she returns to active duty. She lives with her grandmother and brother, with scenes depicting everyday interactions like preparing for festivals. After Akira's death, she inherits an amulet he received during a Human Army expedition and wears it, carrying it into the Fifth Operation Azure as a memento.
