Description
Zhong Lanzhu is a second-year student at Nijigasaki High School, originally from Hong Kong and of half-Chinese heritage. Fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, her mother serves as the school's chairwoman, granting her significant influence. She initially leveraged this position to form the School Idol Association, temporarily disbanding the existing School Idol Club and recruiting some members.
She transferred to Nijigasaki alongside her friend Mia Taylor and shares a childhood history with student council president Shioriko Mifune. Treated as gifted from a young age, Zhong Lanzhu developed insecurities stemming from being perceived as "special," which hindered her ability to form equal peer relationships. This background contributes to her charismatic yet demanding presence, often pushing others toward excellence through controversial methods that sometimes appear self-centered or princess-like.
During the main storyline, she initially banned the School Idol Club to pressure members into her Association. She later reconciled, reactivating the Club, dissolving the Association, formally apologizing for her actions, and joining as the 12th school idol and 13th member of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club.
Physically, Zhong Lanzhu possesses long pink-gold hair styled in looped pigtails in the anime, light grey-blue eyes, a beauty mark beneath her right eye, and stands 165 cm tall.
In *Nijiyon Animation*, she engages in various activities, including a cuteness competition with Ai Miyashita in Episode 2 and playing Old Maid in Episode 7, where her expressive reactions are evident. Later episodes, such as Season 2 Episode 13, feature her in a "best big sister" contest, highlighting her interactions with other members, particularly Shioriko, who views her more as a "little sister" figure.
Her name "鐘嵐珠" (Zhōng Lánzhū) combines characters meaning "bell," "mist," and "pearl." She stylizes her signature as "L'ange" (French for "angel"). Trivia notes her trilingual singing debut, cooking skills comparable to Setsuna Yuki's, and design similarities to Kotori Minami, including their mothers' roles as school chairwomen.
