Description
Kanade Minamino is a 14-year-old student at the prestigious Private Aria Academy, where she is known for her strong academic performance. Despite her intellectual strengths, she struggles with athletic activities. She lives with her family, who own and operate a cupcake shop called the Lucky Spoon, and her deepest aspiration is to become a pastry chef so she can one day take over the family business. Outside of baking, she has a well-known fondness for cats, with a particular fascination for their paws.

In her daily life, Kanade presents a mature, calm, and collected exterior. She is a hardworking and reliable individual, but this composed surface masks a more stubborn and competitive interior. She can be surprisingly stern, especially with those she cares about most, such as her childhood friend Hibiki Hojo and her younger brother, Souta. This strictness stems from a place of deep care and a belief in being honest with loved ones, though it can sometimes create tension in her relationships.

The most important relationship in Kanade's life is with Hibiki Hojo, her childhood best friend. The two shared a deep bond formed over a love of music in an old church, but a misunderstanding on their first day of middle school caused a painful rift between them. Each waited for the other under a different cherry tree, believing they had been forgotten. This fractured friendship was healed only when both girls simultaneously awakened as Pretty Cures during an attack by the villain Siren. Their shared desire to protect each other and their precious memories allowed them to transform into Cure Melody and Cure Rhythm for the first time. While their initial battles were hampered by their unresolved personal issues, they fully reconciled after helping other children work through a similar conflict, learning to trust each other once more.

In the crossover film Precure All-Stars DX3 Mirai ni Todoke! Sekai o Tsunagu Niji-Iro no Hana, Cure Rhythm is transported alongside other Pretty Cure warriors to an ocean-themed dimension. There, she finds herself grouped with other Cures whose primary color is blue, including Cure White, Cure Egret, and Cure Marine. Although separated from her usual partner, Cure Melody, she demonstrates her tactical thinking and collaborative spirit by working with this new team to devise a strategy for escape. During the climactic battle against the film's antagonist, Black Hole, Cure Rhythm reunites with Cure Melody to perform a powerful, upgraded version of their joint attack, the Music Rondo.

Other key relationships in Kanade's life include her family. She has a caring but sometimes contentious dynamic with her younger brother, Souta, whose playful mischief often calls for her stern older sister side. She also harbors a significant crush on Ouji Masamune, a talented musician at her school, which often leads to her becoming flustered or lost in romantic daydreams. This crush is also a source of slight jealousy towards her fellow Cure, Ellen Kurokawa (Cure Beat), who interacts with Ouji frequently.

Throughout her journey, Kanade experiences notable personal growth. Her initial stubbornness and occasional reluctance to admit fault evolve into greater emotional resilience. She learns to balance her natural tendency to be strict and assertive with the flexibility and empathy required for true teamwork, particularly in her partnership with the more carefree Hibiki. Her core motivation, protecting the happiness of others through both her duties as a Pretty Cure and her dream of making people smile with her baked goods, remains a constant guiding force.

As Cure Rhythm, Kanade transforms using the White Fairy Tone, Rery. In this form, her dirty blonde hair becomes a longer, platinum blonde, typically styled into a curly ponytail secured with braids. Her costume is a frilly white and light pink mini-dress with puffed sleeves, knee-high boots, and heart-shaped accessories. She wields a weapon called the Fantastic Belltier to perform her purification attacks. Her signature solo attack is Music Rondo, which she can also perform as a more powerful duet with Cure Melody, called the Super Quartet Music Rondo. In the DX3 film, she is also seen in a special upgraded form, Super Cure Rhythm, which features small golden wings.
