Description
Shinobu Oshino, originally Princess Rola, was born around 600 years ago in an unspecified foreign kingdom. Her remarkable beauty earned her the title "Princess Beauty," but she grew disillusioned by others valuing only her appearance. An elderly witch granted her wish to reveal her inner beauty, cursing her with a lethal inner radiance: anyone witnessing it felt compelled to commit suicide in her name. This caused the deaths of her parents and kingdom. The dying witch advised Rola to wander alone to prevent further tragedy, leading her to adopt the name Acerola.

She eventually encountered the pureblood vampire Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master, who named her Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade. "Kiss-Shot" referenced a cursed princess healed by a prince's kiss, foreshadowing her future connection with Koyomi Araragi. "Heart-Under-Blade" reflected perceived strength and kindness, with the kanji for "heart" (心) beneath "blade" (刃) later inspiring her human name "Shinobu" (忍). After Deathtopia turned her into a vampire, Shinobu lived for centuries, eventually traveling to Japan. Her arrival at a sacred lake dispersed its waters, ending a drought and leading locals to deify her. They established the North Shirahebi Shrine in her honor, though later destroyed.

During *Kizumonogatari*, a severely weakened Shinobu attacked Koyomi Araragi during spring break, turning him into a vampire. After Meme Oshino helped resolve their conflict, Koyomi saved her life by letting her drink his blood, reducing her power and trapping her as an eight-year-old girl. Meme renamed her Shinobu Oshino, symbolizing her new existence. Initially resentful of her diminished state, she retreated into muteness and isolation. Over time, she reconciled with Koyomi, forming a symbiotic bond where she resides in his shadow and sustains herself on small amounts of his blood. This connection allows them to share emotions and senses. Her personality evolved into a talkative, haughty demeanor with archaic speech patterns, though she occasionally uses modern slang or gadgets. She developed an obsession with Mister Donuts, particularly Golden Chocolate flavor, often bargaining with Koyomi to obtain them.

Shinobu's relationship with Koyomi is central. She harbors deep affection for him, evident in jealousy when he interacts with others like Nadeko Sengoku. In *Mayoi Jiangshi*, an alternate timeline where Koyomi died, she unleashed zombie vampires ("Jiangshi") to destroy the world, highlighting her profound dependence. Conversely, seeing him alive in that timeline, she wept tears of blood. Her loyalty was tested when her first thrall, Seishirou Shishirui, resurfaced; though conflicted, she ultimately chose Koyomi.

In *Owarimonogatari*, Shinobu regained her full power as Kiss-Shot during the confrontation against Ougi Oshino, Koyomi's manifestation of darkness. She aided in creating a replica of the demon sword Kokorowatari to combat Ougi. After Koyomi lost his arm rescuing Ougi from a void, Shinobu healed him, reverting to her child form and retreating to the mountains to recover. Following this, she was formally adopted by Koyomi and Hitagi Senjōgahara after their marriage, becoming their legal daughter during their honeymoon in *Hitagi Honeymoon*.

Later, in *Off & Monster Season* arcs like *Shinobu Mustard* and *Shinobu Suicide*, she reunited with her creator, Deathtopia Suicide-Master. These stories explored their complex history and Shinobu's lingering trauma from her human curse and vampiric existence. Though initially awkward, their interactions revealed unresolved tensions and a measure of closure.

Shinobu's appearance fluctuates with her power level. Her most common form is an eight-year-old girl with golden eyes, waist-length blonde hair, and pointed ears, often wearing sleeveless dresses of varying colors. With increased blood intake, she can age into adolescent or adult forms. Her true vampire form, Kiss-Shot, appears as a woman in her late twenties dressed in a red and black gown with white gloves and stockings.
