Description
Second Lieutenant Excellen Browning serves as "Assault 2" in the ATX Team, piloting the long-range combat unit Weissritter (later upgraded to Rein Weissritter) for sniper support. Rebuilt using enigmatic Einst alien technology after sustaining critical injuries as the sole female survivor of a shuttle accident that killed all other cadets except Kyosuke Nanbu, she is now approximately 80% Einst and 20% human, retaining her original memories and identity.
Her personality is persistently cheerful, flirtatious, and teasing, especially towards younger colleagues like Brooklyn Luckfield and Masaki Andoh. She uses affectionate nicknames for peers and mecha. Despite her lightheartedness, she demonstrates combat competence, particularly in evasion and ranged tactics. Excellen maintains a dedicated romantic relationship with Kyosuke Nanbu, persistently seeking overt affection from him, usually with limited success. She forms close bonds, acting as a supportive older sister figure to Lamia Loveless (who calls her "Ex-neesama") and later Ariel Org. Excellen enjoys alcohol, social gatherings, and occasionally accompanies superiors informally. She habitually misquotes metaphors in battle despite her intelligence.
During conflicts with the Einst and Shadow-Mirror, the Einst create Alfimi, a clone derived from Excellen's data. Alfimi pursues Excellen, leading to Excellen's capture and brainwashing by the Einst, who plan to remake Earth with Kyosuke and Alfimi as progenitors. Kyosuke frees her. After Alfimi's demise, Excellen grieves the loss, viewing Alfimi as part of herself. She also encounters Lemon Browning, her counterpart from the Shadow-Mirror universe where Lemon was rebuilt after perishing in the shuttle accident. In their final confrontation, Excellen expresses a desire to name future twin daughters Alfimi and Lemon; she adjusts this to naming the elder twin Lemon if she defeats Lemon.
The Einst components within her body and the Rein Weissritter begin fading after the Einst leader's defeat, though later events suggest the technology may persist. Excellen continues participating in subsequent missions, including interdimensional displacements to La Gias where she temporarily leads bandits before reuniting with allies. She later returns to confront new terrestrial and extraterrestrial threats, maintaining her role alongside Kyosuke.
Excellen incorporates cultural references into her battle dialogue, adapting Sanger Zonvolt's catchphrase or quoting phrases like "Hasta la vista, baby!" during specific attacks. Her design and traits draw inspiration from Mizuki Tachibana, sharing attributes like a fondness for alcohol and a flirtatious demeanor.
