TV-Series
Description
Clarky Ray is a secondary character from the second television anime series in the Battle Spirits franchise. He is a third-year middle school student and a highly ranked card battler, known by the nickname the Light Prince. As one of the chosen Core Light Masters, he holds the position of the Yellow Warrior, primarily utilizing cards of the yellow attribute in battles.
In terms of personality, Clarky is flamboyant, cheerful, and narcissistic, often delivering charming lines to women, whom he frequently calls baby. He has a notable fondness for beautiful women, regardless of whether they are real or depicted on his cards, and is known to treat his own spirit cards with great affection, sometimes polishing them or giving them a kiss. Despite his somewhat frivolous and gentlemanly demeanor, he possesses a strong sense of justice and surprisingly good physical strength that belies his elegant appearance. His respect for women is not absolute; he initially feels strong disgust towards characters like Hyakure Kumi, whom he perceives as evil for mistreating people from the otherworld. He also seems to consider older women, such as the witch Magisa who is over four thousand years old, to be outside his romantic interest.
Clarky’s motivation is intertwined with the main quest to oppose the Different World King. He is recruited by the different world witch Magisa to join the protagonist Dan Bashin and the other Core Light Masters on their journey to liberate the different world of Grand Rolo from the king's oppressive rule. Throughout the story, he becomes a reliable ally, battling alongside the group and playing a key role in their efforts, such as the successful destruction of the Horizon Ladder in the Red World. His primary deck, which he calls his harem deck, is built around combining beautiful female spirits, particularly his ace card, the archangel Sophia, with yellow magic cards. His battle style reflects his personality, and his initial reluctance to see his beloved Sophia destroyed in battle once led to a loss against Dan.
Clarky’s key relationships are mainly with his fellow Core Light Masters. He travels and fights alongside Dan, the Violet Warrior Viole Mai, and the Blue Warrior Suzuri Shuto. His development throughout the series sees him evolve from a somewhat self-absorbed flirt into a committed and trustworthy member of the team, fighting for a cause greater than himself. His notable abilities are centered on his mastery of the yellow attribute, featuring strategic combos and a deep connection to his spirit cards. The character reappears in the sequel series, Battle Spirits: Brave, continuing his role within the franchise's narrative.
