Description
Mako Sato, a female street racer from Gunma Prefecture, pilots the Royal Navy Blue Pearl Nissan SilEighty as part of Impact Blue alongside her navigator Sayuki. Their driving partnership mirrors World Rally Championship teams, dominating Mount Usui as the fastest crew. While details of her early life remain sparse, Mako possesses a genuine appreciation for cars and those passionate about automotive culture.
Her path crosses with Koichiro Iketani of the Akina SpeedStars when he helps repair her city car. She gives him her number, leading to a date and Iketani's developing feelings. Unknown to him, Mako's initial contact aimed to arrange a race against Mount Akina's fastest driver, Takumi Fujiwara. She proposes exchanging her virginity for the race opportunity. Iketani refuses the offer but facilitates the race after learning of her intent to retire.
This race on Mount Usui marks Takumi's first away battle. Mako and Sayuki are stunned by Takumi's ability to stay close despite the unfamiliar course, especially at the demanding C-121 corner. Mako eventually spins out after entering a corner too fast, nearly hitting Takumi, and concedes defeat. Later, Impact Blue and the SpeedStars visit a water park. A misunderstanding erupts when Iketani finds a photo of Ryosuke Takahashi in Mako's purse; she waits for him at a hotel, but he arrives late due to traffic and finds her gone.
Mako later defeats Satake of the Emperor team on Mount Usui after he disparages female racers. Underestimating her, he understeers and crashes at C-121. Miyahara of the Myogi NightKids then expresses romantic interest, asking her to quit racing. After Mako aggressively drives him through a mountain pass in her SilEighty, Miyahara recognizes her undiminished passion and they part ways.
Mako later encounters Iketani coincidentally in a parking lot as he heads to a family event. She informs him of her decision to pursue professional racing. Iketani chooses not to confess his long-held feelings, believing it might hinder her ambition. They part intending to meet again but never do. Mako attends Takumi Fujiwara's final race against Shinji Inui with Sayuki. Shinji becomes attracted to Mako and overtakes Takumi near her viewing spot specifically to show off his skill to her.
Mako's racing career culminates in her transition to professional circuit racing. She modifies her SilEighty into a dedicated race car and competes at Tsukuba Circuit. Early animation sequences occasionally depicted her with blonde hair, an error corrected in later releases.
