Description
Fujiwara no Takamichi is a nobleman serving as the Vice Minister of Civil Affairs within the imperial government of Kyou, a fictional world inspired by Japan’s Heian period. He holds a position of considerable responsibility and is known for his diligent, hardworking nature, often dedicating himself thoroughly to his duties in the palace archives. As one of the eight protectors known as the Hachiyō, he holds the title of Byakko of Heaven. This designation comes with an elemental attribute of Heaven, and his dragon jewel is located on the right side of his neck.

Takamichi’s personality is defined by a serious, calm, and studious demeanor. He possesses a strong and unwavering sense of justice, which guides his actions both as a government official and as a guardian. Furthermore, he is described as chivalrous, particularly toward women, and carries himself with a polite and respectful bearing. However, his commitment to duty is so profound that it can create inner turmoil, especially when it conflicts with his personal feelings.

In the story, Takamichi’s primary role is to protect Akane Motomiya, the Priestess of the Dragon God who has been summoned from another world. He takes this responsibility with the utmost seriousness, which initially extends to keeping a respectful and professional distance. As he spends time with Akane, he develops deep and precious feelings for her, considering her welfare constantly. This growing affection creates a significant internal conflict for him, as he struggles to reconcile his sense of duty with his romantic emotions, often leading him to resist acknowledging his own heart. This inner struggle is a key part of his development, causing occasional friction with fellow guardian Tachibana no Tomomasa, who confronts him about hiding his true feelings. Ultimately, Takamichi overcomes this conflict to confess his love for Akane and decides to remain by her side.

Takamichi maintains important relationships with the other Seven Guardians, working alongside figures such as Minamoto no Yorihisa, Abe no Yasuaki, and Eisen to defend the capital. He also interacts with Akane’s companions from the modern world, Tenma Morimura and Shimon Nagareyama. On the opposing side, his primary adversaries are Akuram, the leader of the Oni clan, and the oni shirabyōshi dancer named Shirin. In one notable encounter, Shirin attempts to seduce him, but he rejects her due to his inherent distrust of the oni. He later injures her in combat but demonstrates his compassionate nature by bandaging her wound, showing that his sense of honor and mercy persists even toward an enemy.

Aside from his role as a guardian, his background as a government official from an illegitimate background is a driving force behind his dedication to hard work and his serious approach to his duties. His notable abilities stem from his position as Byakko of Heaven, granting him elemental powers to fight against the Oni clan and protect the Dragon Priestess and the capital of Kyou from their encroaching threat.
