The Werewolf, also called Ōkami-Otoko or Hito-Ōkami, is a Western yōkai of English origin. He debuted in the Shonen Magazine story *The Great Yōkai War* as Hitokui-Ōkami (Man-Eating Wolf), serving under Backbeard in the Western Yōkai Army. Representing England at the Yōkai Rally, he later gained respect for Kitarō after being rescued by him during an accident. Typically appearing in full wolf form due to rarely depicted transformation abilities, he demonstrated this power exceptionally in *GeGeGe no Kitarō: Yōkai Tokkyū! Maboroshi no Kisha*, where Kitarō defeated him using Remote Control Geta. His combat relies on sharp claws, and he displays interests in jewelry and medicinal knowledge—including antidotes for curses like Gorgon's petrification. In other narratives like the *Kitarō Jigoku Arc*, he is portrayed as a vampire-type entity. He holds minor roles across media such as *Shinigami Tai-Senki*, *After Yuki-hime-chan*, and *Kitarō's World Obake Tour*—where he resides in Romania. In *Gegege no Kitarō: Yōkai Sen-Monogatari*, he exhibits supernatural agility and specializes in sneak attacks, though vulnerable to silver weapons; Kitarō exploited this weakness using Neko-Musume's silver ring. Later in the fifth anime series, his background expanded: he is Wild's father and fought in the original Great Yōkai War 12 years earlier. Episode #68 features him reuniting with allies like the original Frankenstein and Dracula II to assault Jigoku, confronting the Kitarō family. The prose adaptation *Shōsetsu Gegege no Kitarō ~Ao no Koku~* reinforces his role as Backbeard's minion during the war on Kikaiga Island.
