Description
Dohko di Libra, originating from China, serves as the Gold Saint of the Libra constellation. He survived the 18th-century Holy War against Hades alongside Aries Shion. Athena bestowed upon him the divine gift of Misopethamenos, reducing his heart rate to one beat per day and drastically slowing his aging. This allowed him to guard the sealed souls of Hades' Specters for 243 years from a tower near China's Rozan waterfalls, awaiting the next Holy War. His prolonged vigil resulted in a diminutive, elderly appearance.
While guarding, Dohko adopted the orphaned girl Shunrei and rigorously trained Dragon Shiryu as his successor, instilling the Saints' core ideals of justice and peace. He also mentored other warriors, including Tenma (in the spin-off *The Lost Canvas*), whom he treated like a younger brother. Dohko emphasized emotional balance and respect for others' feelings, notably acknowledging Tenma's enduring bond with his childhood friend Alone despite Alone's alignment with Hades.
Dohko abstained from direct involvement during the false Pope Saga's reign over Sanctuary. However, he covertly aided the Bronze Saints' rebellion by sending his Libra Gold Cloth to free Cygnus Hyoga from ice imprisonment. Later, he validated Athena's authority and assumed leadership among the Saints. During the war against Poseidon, he forbade Gold Saints from direct combat to preserve their strength for Hades, deploying the Libra Cloth again to destroy Poseidon's pillars.
With Hades' resurgence, Dohko regained his youthful form and formidable combat prowess. He played a pivotal strategic role, revealing the crucial Eighth Sense needed to fight in the underworld and devising the plan to breach the Wailing Wall guarding Elysium. In the final battle, he joined the other Gold Saints in a collective sacrificial attack to destroy the wall, securing Athena's path to confront Hades and culminating his centuries-long service.
As Libra's guardian, Dohko uniquely wielded authority over the constellation's six weapons: sword, spear, tonfa, shield, trident, and twin rods. These armaments, forbidden without his permission due to their catastrophic potential, symbolized his duty to uphold balance between justice and force. His techniques, named after the Lushan mountains, included *Rozan Shoryu Ha* (Rising Dragon Force) and the suicidal *Rozan Koryu Ha* (Enraged Dragon Force), which propelled both combatants into atmospheric incineration. In *The Lost Canvas*, he demonstrated *Rozan Hyakuryu Ha* (Hundred Dragons Force). His constellation also enabled telepathic communication and assessment of Sanctuary's alignment with justice.
Across iterations, Dohko's core traits—wisdom, loyalty, and commitment to equilibrium—remained consistent. His younger self in spin-offs exhibited fiercer impulsiveness, yet his actions consistently reflected Libra's themes: diplomacy, strategic intervention, and the restoration of harmony during times of darkness.
