Description
Senbei Norimaki, also known as Dr. Slump, is a genius inventor living in Penguin Village. His childhood involved the loss of his parents and a lasting dislike for dogs stemming from an insult to his intelligence. He attended Penguin Village Middle School, where he developed his first romantic interest in his teacher.
His defining adult achievement is creating Arale Norimaki, a powerful robot girl designed as a human child. Adaptations vary on her origin: sometimes conceived as an attractive maid, other times an accidental experiment result. Senbei inconsistently introduces Arale to villagers as his younger sister or daughter, though he primarily acts as her father figure.
Senbei combines brilliant scientific intellect with a notable lack of common sense, eccentric behavior, and lecherous tendencies. These often drive him to create inventions for voyeuristic purposes, like the See-Thru Glasses. When displaying confidence, he can temporarily transform into a taller, more handsome version of himself for three minutes.
His notable inventions include the Big-Small Gun for resizing objects, the Time Slipper for time travel, the Numb Ray Gun for immobilization, the Future Camera for viewing future appearances, and the Reality Machine series that materializes imagined objects. Many inventions malfunction or cause unintended consequences, such as the Cyborg Bear created to save a wounded animal.
His romantic pursuits focus on Midori Yamabuki, Arale's teacher. After a prolonged, mishap-filled courtship involving space travel, he accidentally proposes to her while she uses the toilet, leading to their marriage. They later have a son, Turbo Norimaki, who displays supernatural abilities from infancy.
Beyond Penguin Village, he appears in the Dragon Ball universe. During Goku's pursuit of General Blue, Senbei attempts to repair the Dragon Radar but secretly requires Turbo's assistance. Later, he wins the "World Invention Award" for his Reality Machine 2, overcoming Dr. Mashirito's sabotage with help from Arale and Beerus.
His character development includes transitioning from a single inventor to a family man after marrying Midori and raising Turbo. Despite this maturity, he retains his core traits of goofiness, scientific curiosity, and occasional lechery throughout all appearances.
