Description
Taisho-kun, universally called Boss, leads the Ham-Ham group as its self-appointed field hamster commander. His name embodies his ambitious role. Boss consistently prioritizes others' needs over his own, even sacrificing cherished possessions like his signature yellow helmet with its green stripe and red crescent. Though often gruff and quick-tempered, he reveals deep dependability, courage, and surprising shyness, especially near certain female hamsters.

His field hamster nature grants him strong independence, wilderness familiarity, and an instinctive "field hamster sense" for predicting weather. Conversely, he suffers seasickness and fares poorly in marine settings. The Ham-Ham Clubhouse serves as both his residence and the group's initial central meeting place.

Romantic interests mark Boss's journey. His enduring primary crush is Bijou, who remains oblivious to his feelings, viewing him brotherly while favoring Hamtaro. Later, Boss develops attractions to other hamsters: the French visitor Oshare, whose affections waver; and Gelato, who reciprocates after he rescues her and her spoon from a crow, declaring him her "prince"—marking his first mutual romance. A minor crush on Harmony surfaces near the end of "Ham-Ham Heartbreak."

Beyond romance, Boss forms significant bonds. He shares a strong friendship with Hamtaro, met early on; initial jealousy over Bijou's preference for Hamtaro later gives way to profound camaraderie. Snoozer, discovered sleeping in the Clubhouse soon after its founding, becomes a cherished companion, especially during Boss's solitary moments, remaining until the Clubhouse is vacated. Boss deeply admires the older hamster Sabu, seeking his counsel; Boss once tried joining Sabu's journey "to become a real man" but returned, persuaded by Hamtaro.

A pivotal shift occurs when Boss departs on a journey in "I'm Parting, Clubhouse!," leading to the Clubhouse's concealment. The Ham-Hams relocate to Sweet Paradise during his absence. Upon returning, Boss adopts a secret "Hero-Ham" identity to aid others anonymously. Hamtaro uncovers this truth in "Here I Am, Clubhouse!". Boss continues using the Hero-Ham persona occasionally afterward, particularly around Otome's Crew, who never learn his dual identity.

Physically, Boss stands 12cm tall with cream and dark brown fur, making him the tallest Ham-Ham. He possesses a visible belly button, a rarity among the hamsters. His helmet is seldom removed, though instances occur in episodes like "Boss's New Rest House" and "Troublesome Magical Seeds."

Key episodes showcasing his character include "Boss is a Mom!" (caring for orphaned chicks), "Boss Runs Away" (his admiration for Sabu), "Fluffy Gelato" (his mutual romance with Gelato), and his Hero-Ham arc in episodes like "It's Your Turn, Hero-Ham!" and "Eternal Hero."
