OVA
Description
Raine, also written as Laine, is the youngest of the eight princesses of the planet Valhalla and a recurring supporting character in the UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie anime series, including the fourth OVA, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie 4: Banquet of Time, Dreams, and Galaxies. She is an alien princess who travels to Earth in search of Valkyrie, drawn by strong affection for her fellow princess and looking up to her almost as an older sister.

Raine is a youthful girl with long blonde hair, blue eyes, and a small, childlike build, and she is usually identified by the antenna on her head. One of her most defining traits is that she is a very poor pilot; her compact, two-part spaceship crashes regularly, and she is generally portrayed as a scatterbrained ditz who causes accidents wherever she goes. She can be childish, impulsive, and somewhat bratty in her dealings with others, but she also has moments of genuine kindness. She has a playful and flirtatious nature that frequently gets her into trouble, and she often acts before thinking things through.

Her motivations change over the course of the story. She first comes to Earth because of her intense attachment to Valkyrie and her desire to be near her. As the series continues, she develops romantic feelings for Kazuto Tokino, the human in charge of the bathhouse where the princesses have gathered, and her earlier devotion to Valkyrie gradually shares space with this new affection. Her key relationships center on the other Valhalla princesses, particularly Valkyrie, and on Kazuto. Among the eight princesses, she is often shown as the most clueless and accident-prone, yet her bond with Valkyrie remains warm and loyal, while her dynamic with Kazuto moves from playful mischief toward genuine romantic interest.

Raine's most notable ability is transformation. She can change her outward appearance to resemble anyone she chooses, including men, but her disguises are never flawless. No matter what form she takes, an antenna remains visible on her head, and her feminine features stay obvious even when she imitates a male, so anyone who knows what to look for can recognize her. Pulling her antenna instantly reverses the transformation.

Her character receives further development in the third season, when she travels back in time to her academy days to correct a mistake in her past; as a result, versions of her younger self occasionally appear in the present. In UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie 4: Banquet of Time, Dreams, and Galaxies, she appears as a supporting character, continuing her role as one of the recurring Valhalla princesses whose presence contributes to the ongoing supernatural events around the bathhouse.
