Mayumi Iizuka is a established Japanese voice actress, singer, and actress born on January 3, 1977, in Tokyo, Japan. She began her career in entertainment at a very young age, joining the theater company Gekidan Wakakusa in 1980 at just three years old and debuting as a child actor the following year. Her family moved to Taiwan for a period during her elementary school years, and upon returning to Japan in 1989, she resumed her acting career. Iizuka made her voice acting debut in 1991 with a role in the animated film Only Yesterday. She is a graduate of Hosei University.
Iizuka is widely recognized for her portrayal of Kasumi, known as Misty in English adaptations, in the long-running Pocket Monsters (Pokémon) anime series. This role, which she began in 1997, brought her significant public recognition and she has continued to voice the character in numerous subsequent films and specials for decades. Among the many other notable roles in her extensive filmography are Makoto Sawatari in Kanon, Aoi Matsubara in To Heart, Tron Bonne in the Mega Man Legends video game series, and Cleao Everlasting in Sorcerous Stabber Orphen. Her other work spans a wide variety of series, including The Vision of Escaflowne, Magic User's Club, Virus Buster Serge, Glass Mask, and more recently, the Kaginado series.
In addition to voice acting, Mayumi Iizuka has maintained an active career as a J-pop singer and radio personality. She made her debut as a singer in 1997 with the release of her first album, Kataomoi, and has since released numerous singles, full-length albums, and mini-albums. For her songwriting and composing activities, she uses the pseudonym Hoshi Mai. Over the course of her career, she has been affiliated with several talent agencies, moving to Kenyu Office in 2014 and then to Across Entertainment in 2017, where she is currently based.
