Description
Shingo's origins trace back to a childhood accident during a visit to the Mendō estate with his grandfather, Saizō, a cultivator of bio-electricity-producing plants. Presumed dead after separation during an incident, Shingo instead survived alone for over a decade within the resulting mutated electric jungle. This harsh environment forced his adaptation, granting him immunity to electricity and the ability to absorb electrical energy to fuel superhuman strength, speed, and stamina. His sole companions were mutant jungle animals and an old television set. Fragmented memories of Saizō led him to anthropomorphize the TV as "Sofu-dono," believing it embodied his grandfather.

Constant exposure to television broadcasts during isolation shaped his worldview, causing him to interpret everything depicted on TV as literal reality. This naivety drove him to seek a girlfriend after watching romantic dramas. He encountered Lum waiting for Ataru Moroboshi and attempted to court her by reenacting television tropes. Unaffected by her lightning attacks due to his immunity, he mistook her subsequent cooperation—a ploy to incite Ataru's jealousy—as genuine affection. He took her to his jungle home, resisting rescue efforts until a confrontation with Ataru destroyed his television set. This event, coupled with revelations about his origins from Ataru and allies, led to his reunion with Saizō.

After reuniting with Saizō, Shingo underwent ninjutsu training rooted in family traditions. He was later employed as a personal ninja bodyguard for Shūtarō Mendō. However, Shingo's lack of deference and preoccupation with television irritated Shūtarō, as he often prioritized leisure over duties and openly mocked his employer. His television-influenced behavior persistently complicated assignments. For instance, tasked with surveilling Shūtarō's sister Ryōko Mendō, Shingo fell in love with her after their first meeting, leading to conflicts with Shūtarō and Ataru. Though Ryōko initially indulged his advances, she eventually rejected him, ending his pursuit.

During another mission, Shingo encountered Ryūnosuke Fujinami. After accidental physical contact in a darkened setting, influenced by a historical romance he had watched, he became convinced they were destined to marry. He pursued her obsessively, attempting to place a hairpin in her hair—a ritual he believed, as advised by Saizō, would secure marriage. Ryūnosuke violently rejected his advances, but Shingo remained undeterred, vowing to continue his efforts to "make amends" by marrying her.

Physically, Shingo possesses a summer tan and a muscular build. His initial design featured brown hair, a brown headband, and yellow-and-black tiger-stripe underwear. Later appearances, including OVAs, altered his hair to blue, his headband to red, and his underwear to green-and-black stripes. As a ninja, he wears a blue outfit without a mask.

Personality-wise, Shingo exhibits a blend of innate friendliness and severe social deficiencies stemming from his upbringing. He is capable of patience and sacrifice for those he cares about, yet his television-saturated isolation left him stubborn, socially inept, and prone to mistaking fictional narratives for real-life guidelines. His romantic pursuits are marked by an inability to accept rejection, requiring extreme intervention to halt his advances. He also lacks hierarchical respect, frequently clashing with Shūtarō over priorities and responsibilities.

His abilities include manipulating the bio-electric jungle's terrain for traps or weapons, enhanced agility from jungle survival, proficiency with throwing weapons, and ninja stealth techniques. When deprived of electrical sources, he weakens significantly, relying on ambient or absorbed electricity to maintain his physical prowess.
