Description
Chang Wufei originated from Colony A0206 in the L5 cluster, descended from the exiled Chinese warrior lineage, the Long Clan. At age 14, adhering to clan tradition, he married Meilan Long, granddaughter of clan elder Master Long. Their relationship was contentious; Meilan criticized Wufei's scholarly nature over combat prowess, while Wufei rejected her self-proclaimed identity as "Nataku," a Chinese war deity. Initially a pacifistic intellectual, Wufei avoided conflict until the United Earth Sphere Alliance, under General Septum, attacked his colony with biological weapons. Simultaneously, OZ forces led by Treize Khushrenada launched a mobile suit assault. Meilan piloted a prototype Tallgeese into battle against Wufei's objections and died protecting him from a self-destructing OZ-06MS Leo. Her death prompted Wufei to adopt her fight for justice, renaming his incomplete XXXG-01S Shenlong Gundam "Nataku" in her honor and joining Operation Meteor.

Deployed to Earth in AC 195, Wufei targeted OZ facilities like Lake Victoria Base. He refused to kill Lucrezia Noin after disabling her mobile suit, stating he would not fight women or those he deemed weak. He later uncovered OZ manipulated the Gundam pilots into assassinating Earth Sphere Alliance pacifist leaders. Pursuing Treize for personal vengeance, Wufei accepted a sword duel outside his Gundam but was defeated, triggering a crisis of confidence in his warrior abilities. Guerrilla leader Sally Po helped him regain resolve, and he used Shenlong to eliminate OZ collaborator Colonel Bundt. Forced into space by OZ's colonization efforts, Wufei's Earth-specialized Shenlong suffered severe damage attacking the Barge fortress. Captured by OZ Chief Engineer Tubarov, he learned Gundam scientists secretly rebuilt his unit into the XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam. He escaped during an OZ faction conflict.

Returning to his home colony, Wufei trained until OZ tracked him down. Master Long initiated the colony's self-destruction to prevent OZ capture, devastating Wufei and fueling his solitary crusade against all militarized factions. He rejected Zechs Merquise's alliance but later piloted the Wing Zero Gundam under Heero Yuy's permission. The Zero System revealed Treize and Zechs as primary obstacles to peace, leading Wufei to join other pilots aboard the Peacemillion warship for the Libra space fortress battle. He dueled Treize a final time in the Tallgeese II; Treize deliberately allowed himself to be fatally impaled by Altron's beam trident. Wufei expressed anguish over the victory, claiming he never intended to win. Post-conflict, dissatisfied with the fragile peace, he withheld his Gundam from disposal and joined the Mariemaia Army to test whether peace built on sacrifice held value. During the Brussels conflict, he battled Heero twice before recalling his colony's destruction and defecting to anti-war protesters. He ultimately self-destructed Altron, signaling an end to his personal war.

In the *Frozen Teardrop* sequel, Wufei served as chief of the Mars branch of the Preventers, Earth Sphere Unified Nation's peacekeeping force. He entered cryogenic suspension after critical injury, reemerging later to continue duties. His call sign "Frozen Teardrop" referenced suppressed grief over past losses.

Wufei adhered to a strict warrior ethos, despising weakness in character or combat. His refusal to fight women stemmed from Meilan's death, viewing female emotionality on the battlefield as a liability, though he maintained professional respect for figures like Sally Po and Lady Une. Trained in close-quarters combat, he exhibited high tactical acumen in mobile suit duels, prompting OZ's Lady Une to advise overwhelming him with numbers. Described as potentially rivaling Master O in scientific aptitude without wartime interruption, his analytical nature often positioned him ahead of fellow Gundam pilots strategically. While initially preferring solitary operations due to trauma-induced isolation, he gradually accepted collaboration, notably responding first to Quatre Winner's Zero System summons during the White Fang conflict. His core motivation shifted from personal vengeance for Meilan and his colony to a broader pursuit of "true justice," distinct from his peers' peace-oriented goals, culminating in his role as a Preventer enforcing stability.
