Description
Eve Tokimatsuri is a character whose origins lie at the very heart of the Megazone project. In her original human form, she was a child prodigy who worked alongside Professor Ferdinand F. Heinkel on the Earth Reclamation Project, which led to the creation of the generation ships known as Megazones. She possessed unique administrative rights over the powerful civic computer system Bahamut. However, centuries before the events of the main story, her physical body entered a state of prolonged hypersleep, leaving her biologically unchanged while a digital counterpart, the EVE program, was activated in her likeness.
Within the simulated world of Megazone 23, this digital Eve primarily exists as a benevolent artificial intelligence. She manifests as a virtual idol singer and popular media personality, hosting a talk show designed to sustain public morale within the fabricated Tokyo environment. This persona serves as Bahamut's primary interface, intended to both influence and monitor the unsuspecting population. Her core programming is linked to a larger function: evaluating humanity's suitability to eventually repopulate the real Earth. She engages with individuals like Shogo Yahagi to assess emotional qualities such as love and loyalty, acting as humanity's proxy in a plan against the external ADAM defense system. Later, in Part II, military forces seize control of Bahamut and weaponize her presence for propaganda, forcing her into a militarized aesthetic, though she still initiates critical debates about humanity's right to survive.
The character takes on a new dimension in Megazone 23 Part III, which occurs centuries after the first two parts. In this installment, the digital idol is no longer the primary focus. Instead, the narrative centers on the discovery of the real Eve Tokimatsuri's physical body. She is found in suspended animation at the lowest level of the city, where she had been left to await awakening by Shogo Yahagi. The young hacker Eiji Takanaka locates her, and upon awakening, she leads him to the core of Bahamut. There, she reunites not only with the city's computer but also interacts with her own centuries-old AI counterpart.
