Description
Gai Shishiô, legally deceased and classified under the codename Cyborg Guy, began as a human astronaut and test pilot for the Space Development Corporation. In 2003, his experimental space shuttle collided with the extraterrestrial object EI-01, critically injuring him. Rescued by the autonomous mechanical lion Galeon, which destroyed EI-01, he was returned to Earth. To save him, his father, Dr. Leo Shishiô, utilized Galeon-derived technology to rebuild his body as a cyborg. Sustained by a G-Stone mechanical heart functioning as an unlimited information circuit, this transformation resulted in his public legal death. Secretly, he joined the defense organization Gutsy Geoid Guard (later Gutsy Galaxy Guard) as field commander and primary pilot.
His cyborg body possessed superhuman strength, speed, and durability, necessitating frequent maintenance and recovery after intense battles. He operated in the Ultimate Armor, featuring a data-gathering lens over his right eye and a GaoBrace on his left wrist. The GaoBrace housed a Will Knife, its sharpness scaling with his resolve, and projected a beam to summon Galeon. He could activate a three-minute Hyper Mode, boosting combat capabilities by tapping energy batteries alongside his face. This mode enabled limited space operation but left him vulnerable to severe damage, especially after high-stress attacks like Hell and Heaven.
After conflict with the alien entity Zonuda, matter sublimation irreparably infected his cyborg body. Using Mamoru Amami's purification abilities, he expelled the corruption and absorbed his G-Stone, evolving into a biologically advanced "Evoluder." This state granted indefinite space survival, flight, and technopathic abilities for direct neural interfacing with machinery like PhantomGao and GaoFighGar. He retained combat armor resembling his cyborg suit, adopting the title "superhuman Evoluder." Later, as pilot of Genesic GaoGaiGar, he became a "Genesic server," with luminous circuitry syncing him to the mecha. This connection exposed him to Chemical Nanomachines capable of infection via the circuits. During a mission in the Trinary Solar System, exposure to the corrosive Triple Zero energy caused progressive mental corruption, eventually extracted by the entity Lamia. This process converted him into a Semi-Evoluder, sharing traits with his partner Mikoto Utsugi.
His relationships include Mikoto Utsugi, his high school sweetheart and eventual wife; Mamoru Amami, whom he protects fiercely; and his father Leo, who engineered his transformation. Standing 201 cm tall, he initially had red hair lengthened for battery cabling during his cyborg phase. This hair shortened after his Evoluder transformation before regrowing in later events. His personality blends calm professionalism off-duty with intense combat pragmatism, often employing ruthless tactics against threats. He exhibits unwavering courage and protective instincts, particularly toward civilians and allies, while harboring unresolved trauma from his near-death experience and isolation. The name inconsistency—Gai (Japanese) versus Guy (codename)—stems from classified records using the latter to mask his survival.
