Description
Cye Mouri, also known as Shin Mouri, hails from Yamaguchi, Japan, born March 14, 1973, under the sign of Pisces. His family, the Mouri clan, traces its lineage to the historical naval general Mouri Motonari and held the rank of duke during the Meiji period. Generations dedicated to protecting the Hagi Sea honed Cye's exceptional aquatic abilities. His father died during naval service when Cye was young, leaving him to be raised by his mother and older sister, Sayoko. His mother managed the family's pottery business while managing a chronic heart condition.
Trained in spear and bow as the Mouri clan's male heir, Cye discovered the Armor of Torrent (Suiko) at age 15 during a traditional diving rite in the Hagi Sea. He retrieved it from a deep crevice with assistance from an orca named Suiki. The armor draws power from water sources and wields a yari (a trident-mancatcher hybrid) and a tanto dagger, unleashing its signature technique: the Cho Ryu Ha (Super Wave Smasher/Crusher), generating high-pressure water pillars. Cye communicates with marine life, navigates whirlpools without his armor, and swims in level-four rapids while armored.
Gentleness, politeness, and consideration define Cye's personality, traits cultivated through his upbringing among women. He dislikes conflict, enjoys tea ceremonies, cooking, flower arrangement, English conversation, basketball, and swimming, and avoids eating fish with heads intact. Despite his pacifism, fierce loyalty emerges when defending others; his anger is described as "quiet" yet "dangerous." His core virtue is Shin (Trust), reflected in his reliance on allies and marine companions.
Cye's character evolves across the series' arcs. During the initial conflict against the Dynasty, he cooperates with fellow warriors to defeat Talpa. Aged 16 in the Gaiden OVA, he assists in rescuing Sage in the United States and battles Shikaisen. The Legend of the Inferno arc (age 17) marks a turning point: witnessing Mukala's brutality, Cye openly resists his role, refusing to lend power to summon the Inferno Armor and nearly clashing with Kento. He later reconciles with his duty, traveling to Africa to aid his friends and helping purify the corrupted Inferno Armors.
By the Message OVA (age 18), Cye stands 174 cm (5'8.5") and weighs 63 kg (139 lbs). He receives a new armor set from Suzunagi. His attire includes a blue-gray hoodie, lavender shirt, pale blue shorts, sneakers, and a white cap. Family relationships remain central; he initially conflicts with Sayoko's fiancé, Ryuusuke, but accepts him after Ryuusuke proves his dedication to protecting the Mouri legacy and the Hagi Sea. Among the Ronin Warriors, he shares his closest bonds with Kento and Ryo, collaborating frequently with Kento.
