Description
Shin Mouri bears the Torrent Armor (Suiko), embodying water and the virtue of trust. Raised in Yamaguchi Prefecture along the Sea of Japan, he mastered swimming and communicates with marine life, forging a profound bond with his orca companion Suiki. His ancestry traces to the Mōri clan, descending from feudal lord Motonari Mōri, with generations tasked to guard the Hagi Sea and the armor. After his father's early death, Shin was raised by his mother—who has a chronic heart condition—and his older sister Sayoko, who later becomes engaged. At 15, he retrieved the armor from the seabed without oxygen in a family rite, later discovering his mother knew its legend.
Gentle, polite, and conflict-averse due to his upbringing among women, Shin dislikes violence yet unleashes fierce protectiveness against merciless foes. He practices tea ceremony, cooking, flower arranging, and English conversation, while avoiding fish served with heads. Close with his warrior comrades, he trains and surfs often with Kento Rei Faung. As the group's initial oldest member and sole high school student, he occasionally displays youthful mischief but typically serves as a stabilizing force.
His primary weapon is the Nijou Yari—a spear merging trident and man-catcher functions—supplemented by a tanto dagger behind his right shoulder and tekko-kagi claws on his forearm gauntlet. The armor’s signature Chou Ryuu Ha (Super Wave Smasher) fires pressurized water projectiles, gaining potency near water sources. Integrated goggles enable underwater vision, while the armor permits breathing underwater and navigating strong currents.
Character progression spans multiple arcs. Against Talpa, he overcomes teamwork struggles to embrace his defender role. During the Gaiden OVA’s U.S. mission to rescue Sage, traumatic events intensify his combat aversion. In the Legend of the Inferno Armor OVA, he questions his warrior destiny, refusing to aid summoning the corrupted Inferno Armor due to distrust. This leads to Ryo and Sage’s capture and conflict with Kento. After introspection, he rejoins the team in Africa, assists their recovery, and helps purify the armors. During purification against the black Inferno armor, Suzunagi traps him in spiritual stasis.
Physically, he has auburn hair and blue-green eyes, growing from 164 cm to 174 cm and 54 kg to 63 kg. His outfits evolve: casual wear (TV series), formal attire (Gaiden), beachwear (Legend of the Inferno Armor arc), and sportswear (Message).
