Description
Sarumaru Sarutani, nicknamed "Saru" for his monkey-like appearance and untamed spirit, is the central figure in the Pro Golfer Saru franchise. He begins as a wild boy possessing natural golfing talent and embarks on a journey to become a professional golfer. His growth involves mastering advanced golf techniques, developing strategic insight into the sport, and forging alliances with comrades who support his quest.

Throughout his career, Sarumaru confronts adversaries from a shadowy golf organization led by the recurring antagonist Mr. X. This conflict unfolds across multiple tournaments and challenges, notably within the Super Golf World theme park where he faces elite international golfers under Mr. X's orchestration. His development includes adapting to diverse competitive environments and overcoming opponents using unconventional or antagonistic tactics.

Sarumaru appears across several seasons and specials. His story originates in a 1982 TV special depicting him as a "wild prodigy boy" challenging established golfers. He subsequently features in a multi-season television series aired from 1985 to 1988, encompassing both "Pro Golfer Saru" and its sequel "New Pro Golfer Saru," chronicling his evolution from raw talent to a refined competitor.
