Description
Matsuzō Matsuno is the father of the Matsuno sextuplets, appearing across all official manga, anime series, and films. He exhibits a somewhat foolhardy and long-suffering personality, attempting strictness but often rendered helpless by his rowdy sons and his recurring habit of losing work checks. This causes significant financial strain, sometimes leading to panic, hunger, or the children being sent to work temporarily. Specific instances involve one occasion where he mistakenly blamed Iyami for a lost check he later found, and another where Iyami actually stole it.

Physically, Matsuzō is short, broad, and plump. He has round eyes similar to his sons, but sports a larger nose, a curly mustache, and prominent buckteeth, with his hair closely shaved on the sides. His design evolved during manga serialization to become shorter and squatter. In Osomatsu-san, his appearance remains largely consistent, though a flashback in "Matsuzo and Matsuyo" depicts him without a mustache to appear younger. He typically wears suits or casual long-sleeved tops and pants.

He faces constant pressure from his job and family, frequently pushed around by bosses and struggling to control his children, particularly evident in the 1988 series. Despite this, he occasionally displays a playful, laid-back side, such as dismissing Osomatsu's request for a private room, though this often draws criticism from his wife, Matsuyo. He is a dedicated fan of the Chunichi Dragons baseball team.

His background shows minor retcons across media. Early manga depicted him running a shop called "Mimatsuya," but later iterations consistently portray him as a salaryman. A 1964 feature reconciled this by stating he owned the liquor shop before the sextuplets' birth but switched to a better-paying job for his family. Osomatsu-san revised this further, showing him and Matsuyo moving directly into their current home and discarding the shop conversion backstory.

Matsuzō and Matsuyo continue to house their adult sons, who remain financially dependent NEETs. His relationships are defined by exasperation with his children's antics and marital dynamics where Matsuyo occasionally snaps at him during family disputes.
