Description
Eri Kasuga is the main human protagonist of the series and a 12-year-old sixth-grader who finds her ordinary life turned upside down by an extraordinary destiny. She has Chinese-Japanese heritage, a detail that connects her to the wider universe of her creator's work. In appearance, Eri is a teenage girl with short brown hair and black eyes. Despite being characterized as a tomboy, her typical wardrobe consists of skirts, often paired with collared shirts or sweaters that feature her initial E. Her personality is spirited, kind, friendly, and sometimes rebellious, and she often tries to jump over the fence in her backyard, a habit that showcases her energetic nature and occasional clumsiness. She enjoys playing and sneaking out, and her mother frequently grounds her for her various misdeeds.

Eri's core motivation is a desire for autonomy over her own life, which directly conflicts with the central premise of the series. She has been chosen to marry Prince Lulealv of the distant planet Mal, a prospect she is none too thrilled about, particularly because she is only a child and already has feelings for a boy on Earth. Her role in the story is that of a reluctant future princess, and much of the narrative revolves around her daily life and the chaos caused by the alien envoys sent to prepare her for this destiny. She never wears pants despite her tomboyish nature, a possible indication of her mother's rules or a family preference.

Her key relationships define her world. Her best friend is Chimpui, the mouse-like alien whose magic she often uses for her own amusement, though she can become angry when he tricks her. She makes him ramen, his favorite dish, and genuinely worries when he is away. In contrast, she finds the dog-like alien Wandaryu irritating, calling him Grandpa Wanda, as he constantly pressures her to accept the prince's marriage proposal. Her primary emotional attachment on Earth is to a quiet, smart boy named Uchiki Shō, for whom she has deep feelings. She hides her emotions for him under the guise of friendship, often helping, encouraging, and supporting him. Her social circle includes her classmates Hotaru Fujino and Sayaka Hata, as well as a rich rival, Sunemi Koganeyama, whose bragging often makes Eri jealous.

Regarding her development, Eri starts by viewing Chimpui as a nuisance but gradually accepts him as a loyal friend. Her journey involves confronting her pre-ordained fate, with future timelines and even a visit from her own son confirming that she will eventually fall in love with and marry the prince. Despite this, in her present, she remains defiant, prioritizing her bond with Uchiki and her earthly life. Her journey balances comedic mishaps with themes of autonomy and the tension between predetermined fate and personal choice. In terms of abilities, Eri possesses no supernatural powers of her own, but she relies on Chimpui's reality-warping magic for various purposes, often using it to fly or to get out of trouble, with predictably disastrous results.
