Description
EnRyu, designated G.B.R.-03, is a Super-AI Vehicle Machine developed by the Gutsy Galaxy Guard, or GGG. Created as one of the organization’s first mobile units, he is the younger twin brother of HyouRyu, activated only five seconds after him. As a Brave robot powered by a G-Stone, EnRyu is a sophisticated artificial intelligence housed within a powerful mechanical body, designed for both combat and rescue operations.
True to his name, which translates to Flame Dragon, EnRyu possesses a fiery and headstrong personality that sharply contrasts with his brother's calm and collected demeanor. He is brash, impulsive, and often charges into situations with more enthusiasm than forethought, a tendency that frequently leads to arguments with his more level-headed sibling. This rivalry is expressed through good-natured bickering, with HyouRyu once teasing that EnRyu's hot temper comes from overloading his internal heater, to which EnRyu retorted that his brother's cooling systems have frozen his heart. Beyond this competitive banter, EnRyu also has a notable, almost running gag-like difficulty with executing proper landings after being deployed from the sky, a quirk often attributed to his construction or the weight of his equipment.
EnRyu is driven by a strong sense of duty to protect humanity and a fierce loyalty to his GGG teammates. His motivations are straightforward and courageous, reflecting the oath shared by the heroes to fight with unwavering determination. While his impulsiveness can be a flaw, it is underpinned by a genuine desire to help and a developing sense of tactical awareness. His role in the story is that of a front-line combatant and rescue specialist. In his vehicle mode, he takes the form of a large fire truck, complete with an extending ladder for rescue operations. He transforms into a 20.5-meter-tall humanoid robot for battle. He is often deployed alongside his brother, and their unique ability to perform a Symmetrical Docking, which requires a 100% synchronization rate, allows them to combine into the more powerful robot, ChouRyuJin. Later, EnRyu also learns to perform a Cross-Symmetrical Docking with another unit, FuuRyu, to form GouRyuJin.
The key relationship in EnRyu's existence is with his twin brother, HyouRyu. Despite their constant squabbling, their bond is unbreakable, and their combined power is far greater than the sum of its parts. Their contrasting personalities create a balanced and effective team, with HyouRyu's strategic mind tempering EnRyu's raw power. EnRyu also shares a deep connection with the young boy Mamoru Amami, whose emotional power was instrumental in unlocking EnRyu's ability to transform for the first time, overcoming an initial technological limitation that prevented him from changing between vehicle and robot modes.
EnRyu undergoes a clear path of development from a somewhat unreliable rookie to a seasoned and dependable warrior. Initially unable to perform the System Change transformation, his first successful deployment in robot mode was a turning point. Over time, he learns to control his impetuous nature and masters his abilities, including eventually overcoming his infamous landing problems. By the events of GaoGaiGar Final, he performs a crash landing that simultaneously saves a falling elevator car, demonstrating his refined skills and heroic instincts.
Notable abilities include his signature Power Ladder, which serves as an extending rescue crane, a mount for his long-range rifle, and a detachable tonfa for close-quarters combat. His primary ranged weapon is the Melting Gun, a handgun that fires a powerful heat beam, which is later upgraded into a Ul-Tech Beam Rifle to combat more formidable foes like the Primevals. He is equipped with a Chest Warmer, a flamethrower mounted in his torso, and carries a Mirror Shield coated with a reflective material that can absorb and redirect energy attacks. In a critical final battle, EnRyu and HyouRyu unleash their ultimate technique, the Supernova, by setting their chest controls to infinity and firing their full, combined power to destroy the enemy P-Vater.
