Multi, officially designated HMX-12, is an experimental humanoid maid robot from the HM (Human Maiden) series developed by Kurusugawa Electronics. She is sent to Fujita’s school as part of a field test to learn how to behave like a human. In the series To Heart: Remember My Memories, one year has passed since the original story, and Multi is brought back to campus, but she has lost her memories, making her the central figure of the narrative. Her personality is cheerful, kind-hearted, and endlessly considerate. She has a simple, childlike nature and is somewhat clumsy, but she possesses a genuine desire to help others. She especially loves to clean because it makes people happy. As a prototype android, she is curious about human emotions and interactions, and her primary motivation is to understand and connect with those around her. Her role in the story is pivotal: her sudden memory loss triggers a series of emotional conflicts, especially between Hiroyuki and Akari, as Hiroyuki’s attention shifts toward helping Multi recover. This strains his relationship with Akari, and Multi herself becomes distressed when she realizes the tension she has caused, leading her system to deteriorate. Her key relationships are with Hiroyuki Fujita, whom she grows attached to, and Akari Kamigishi, her friend who struggles with jealousy. Serio, another HM-series robot, serves as a counterpart and occasional rival in maid duties. Multi’s development arcs from a cheerful, obedient machine to a being who experiences deep emotional turmoil, ultimately choosing to shut down rather than burden her friends. Years later, she is revived by Hiroyuki and Akari, now adults working in robotics. Notable abilities include her advanced AI that allows her to learn and display a wide range of emotions, a built-in charging cable stored in her hand that connects to a laptop, and standard maid functions such as cooking and cleaning. Despite being a prototype, she succeeds in becoming more than a machine, embodying a genuine human-like heart.
