Description
Makoto Kurita attends Class 5-3 at Dōmori Elementary, initially standing out as his classmates' most emotionally reactive and fearful member. He instinctively runs away or screams when encountering supernatural phenomena. Despite this pronounced fear, Makoto possesses a fundamentally kind and friendly nature, allowing him to maintain cheerfulness even when facing threats from humans and yōkai. Guided by his teacher Nube and supported by friends, he gradually develops the ability to confront his fears, demonstrating incremental growth in courage through various encounters.

His characterization consistently emphasizes childlike qualities. Physically, he has a notably small stature and frequently voices his hopes of "growing up." His interests also reflect this youthfulness, favoring juvenile pastimes like keeping pets and watching sentai series; his favorite is "Chou Kiken Sentai Kakukaku Ranger," a parody of "Ninja Sentai Kaku Ranger." Academically, he performs poorly, alongside classmates Hiroshi Tateno and Katsuya Kimura, yet distinguishes himself by actively putting effort into self-improvement endeavors.

Makoto Kurita's name and character design derive inspiration from the Kazuo Umezu manga series "Makoto-chan." No significant deviations or expanded backstory from spin-offs, movies, or other media are documented.
