TV-Series
Description
Nurikabe Nyoubou is the wife of the wall-shaped yōkai Nurikabe in Gegege no Kitarō. She appears in the fifth anime series, which aired in 2007, where she and her twelve children make up what is known as the Nurikabe family. Although the family is visible in the series opening animation from the beginning, she is properly introduced in the thirteenth episode, titled Hard Work! Nurikabe the Bodyguard (奮闘!ぬりかべ用心棒).

In appearance, she resembles her husband, taking the form of a large, wall-like yōkai with simple facial features, though she is somewhat smaller than him. Her body is notably pink in color, which distinguishes her from the usual gray of her husband.

Her personality is depicted as caring and devoted, centered on her husband and children. In the episode where she is introduced, Nurikabe takes on dangerous work as a bodyguard in order to support the household, and she is shown as a supportive wife and mother. Her motivation is tied to the safety and unity of her family; when Nurikabe and Kitarō are overwhelmed in battle, she and all twelve children rush to the scene to help, demonstrating a strong willingness to fight alongside her husband despite the danger.

Her role in the story is to expand the personal life of Nurikabe, a normally quiet and loyal ally of Kitarō, by revealing that he has a family of his own. She does not take part in the main adventures as a regular companion and appears mainly within the family-focused episode. Her key relationships are with her husband, Nurikabe, and her twelve children, and through them she is connected to Kitarō and his fellow yōkai.

The series does not highlight any individual abilities of hers in detail. Like others of her kind, she possesses the sturdy, wall-like body typical of nurikabe yōkai, and together the family uses their combined strength and bulk to protect and rescue Nurikabe and Kitarō when the situation becomes dire.
