Dr. Kozaburo Nambu, an Interpol executive affiliated with the International Science Organization, held degrees in Engineering and Medical Mechanics from Oxford and Cambridge, and received the Mami Scientific Prize. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo and served as a consultant for the ISO's significant Mantle Plan. He established a crescent-shaped coral reef base for oceanic conservation and self-defense, armed with super bird missiles. Capable of deploying Interpol troops or the Red Impulse squadron against Galactor, he typically did so only when the Science Ninja Team was unavailable. His leadership responsibilities expanded after Director Anderson's death, leading to his appointment as head of the ISO during the events of Gatchaman Fighter. Nambu formed and guided the Science Ninja Team, developing their unique Science Ninja Technique martial art system. He personally raised Ken Washio following the disappearance of Ken's father, Kentarou, who later resurfaced as Red Impulse. Similarly, he rescued Joe Asakura after Galactor assassinated Joe's parents, concealing Joe's survival with a falsified death certificate under "George Asakura." The ISO remained unaware of his direct involvement in raising the team members, causing surprise when security encountered them in civilian attire. His technological contributions included designing the team's signature vehicles and their primary aircraft, the God Phoenix, capable of supersonic flight, underwater travel, and space operations. This vessel was armed with bird missiles and later upgraded super bird missiles. During Gatchaman Fighter, he oversaw the Gatchaspartan mecha's development as a replacement for the destroyed God Phoenix, equipping it with the hazardous "Hypershoot" system that endangered Ken's life. Nambu's narrative concluded opposing Leader Z's "Poison Apple" plan involving an antimatter asteroid during Gatchaman Fighter, where he was killed. His legacy persisted through a posthumously deployed reincarnation device. Throughout the series, he maintained a pattern of calculated decisions, occasionally countermanding ISO directives deemed necessary for planetary protection.
