TV Special
Description
Kaori Misaka possesses light skin, stands 164 cm tall, and has long, flowing dark brown hair parted in the middle with light blue eyes. She typically wears her school uniform or winter clothing. As class representative, she is known for her intelligence and extensive knowledge of schoolmates and townspeople, though she remains unaware of supernatural city events following Yuichi Aizawa's arrival.
She is Shiori Misaka's older sister and maintains a close friendship with Nayuki Minase. Initially, Kaori treats Shiori coldly, publicly denying their sibling relationship and refusing to acknowledge Shiori's existence. This stems from her knowledge of Shiori's terminal illness and short life expectancy; Kaori distances herself to avoid the anticipated pain of Shiori's death. She once confided in Yuichi, questioning the purpose of Shiori's birth given the inevitable outcome.
Despite her outward detachment, Kaori cares deeply for Shiori. Their relationship was positive before Shiori's illness worsened. Kaori's emotional conflict peaks when she breaks down during a private conversation with Yuichi, revealing her fear of loss as the reason for avoidance. Afterwards, her avoidance intensifies, and she explicitly states having no younger sister.
A turning point occurs during Yuichi's birthday party for Shiori. Kaori initially avoids the event but appears later, causing tension as she continues to publicly reject Shiori. However, after the party, Kaori privately acknowledges Shiori as her sister and suggests they talk to reconnect. This reconciliation brings Shiori significant happiness. Kaori shifts to openly supporting Shiori, remaining by her side despite slim recovery chances, continuing this role even after Shiori's unexpected recovery.
In the special "Kanon Kazahana," set during spring after the main events, Kaori appears briefly alongside Nayuki Minase during a period of normalcy following earlier resolutions.
Kaori's development traces a journey from emotional self-preservation to acceptance and familial commitment, particularly in her evolving relationship with Shiori.
