Description
Batt, alternately spelled Bart or Batto, is a thief first encountered when imprisoned in Lin's village for stealing food. He meets Kenshiro there and initially seeks to exploit the warrior's strength for survival in the wasteland. Witnessing Kenshiro's power transforms Batt into his first traveling companion. Originally from an orphan family raised by adoptive mother Toyo, Batt left his village to lessen her burden, vowing to return successful. Early experiences in the violent post-apocalyptic world shaped him as brash and self-serving, but he matures into a loyal, responsible figure. His practical skills in gadget repair and dune buggy operation aid the group. He forms a protective, brotherly bond with the orphan Lin during their travels.
Years later, Batt co-leads the Hokuto Army with Lin, resisting oppressors like Jakou's Imperial Forces and the Tentei's army. He harbors romantic feelings for Lin, which deepen after her kidnapping and manipulation via Kaioh's Shikanhaku pressure point causes her to fall for her rescuer. Despite Kenshiro suggesting Batt could make Lin happy, Batt selflessly tries to unite Lin with Kenshiro. Though Batt and Lin later become a couple, guilt over her altered feelings drives him to use his limited Hokuto Shinken knowledge to erase her memories. When Kenshiro suffers amnesia, Batt orchestrates their reunion while confronting the vengeful Bolge. Mortally wounded in this fight, Batt uses his final strength to kill Bolge. His dying wish is for Kenshiro and Lin to unite, though Lin returns to Batt's body. Kenshiro revives Batt using his techniques, enabling Batt and Lin to marry and live out their lives.
In the film *Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Raoh Den Junai no Shō*, Batt appears with Kenshiro's group aiding villagers against Holy Emperor Souther's forces. This includes a subplot where he returns to his home village, reflecting his enduring connection to his origins.
