Description
Hinano Hoshikita is the main protagonist of the anime Pole Princess!!. She is a seventeen year old girl of average build with pale skin, gray or green eyes, and shoulder length light brown hair that is usually styled with a braid on the right side. Her surname, Hoshikita, combines the kanji for star and north to form an inverted variation of the word North Star, which subtly connects her identity to celestial themes.
Hinano is characterized as an introverted and mild mannered girl who struggles to express herself openly around others. Despite her reserved and shy nature, she possesses a strong inner determination and serves as the emotional heart of her group. Her quiet demeanor belies a persistent effort to achieve her goals once she has committed to a path.
The primary driving force behind Hinanos actions is a deep and sentimental attachment to her grandmothers planetarium, a place she has loved since childhood. When she learns that this cherished planetarium is facing closure, she becomes determined to find a way to save it. Her motivation crystallizes when she coincidentally witnesses a woman named Azumi performing a beautiful and graceful pole dance beneath a starry sky. Stunned by the sight, Hinano realizes that a similar show held in the planetarium dome could attract enough visitors to keep it open.
This inspiration leads Hinano into the world of pole dancing. With the encouragement of her childhood friend Lilia Saijo, she tracks down Azumi, who is revealed to be a pole dancing instructor. However, she finds Azumi depressed and planning to close her school. In a critical moment, Azumi agrees to teach them only if Hinano and Lilia can find enough students to pay the rent. Embracing this challenge, Hinano successfully recruits other members and formally establishes her own team named Galaxy Princess. Beyond simply saving the planetarium, her role in the story expands as she enters the competitive pole dancing circuit with her team and aims for the Pole Dance Japan Cup, where they face reigning champions.
A key relationship for Hinano is with her childhood friend Lilia, who supports her from the very beginning. Her relationship with Azumi is that of a student to a mentor, as Azumi provides the training and guidance needed for Hinano to develop her skills. The teams performances are notable for incorporating astronomy and celestial themes, which is a direct reflection of Hinanos inspiration and the planetarium setting they are fighting to preserve. Over the course of the story, while still retaining her gentle core, Hinano grows from a shy girl who cannot express herself well into a determined young woman capable of leading her team and performing with grace under the stars.
