Description
Retsu Seiba is the elder half of the "Let's Go Brothers" sibling duo, separated by one year from his younger brother. Standing 124 cm tall and weighing 28 kg, he possesses striking red hair and red eyes, almost always wearing his signature green hat outside school or sleep. His primary color motif is red, evident in his racing gloves, shirt, and Mini 4WD cars.
Introduced as an 11-year-old fifth grader, Retsu displays a patient, analytical, and levelheaded personality, contrasting sharply with his brother's impulsiveness. While generally even-tempered and mature, he occasionally shows annoyance during arguments or when facing unreasonable behavior. His racing style prioritizes control, stability, and precision cornering, favoring balanced performance over pure speed. His early machines include the Super Astute Jr. and the Sonic Saber – the latter being his first car from Dr. Tsuchiya. He personally designed the Sonic Saber's red and green color scheme and formed a deep attachment to it before its destruction in Dr. Ogami's volcanic lab during a race.
After losing Sonic Saber, he readily accepted the Vanguard Sonic as its successor, recognizing its potential despite his brother's initial reluctance. As captain of the TRF Victorys during the World Grand Prix (WGP), he demonstrated leadership focused on team strategy and formation racing. His analytical skills were crucial for assessing race conditions and planning team tactics. For the WGP, he raced the Hurricane Sonic, designed specifically for exceptional drifting capabilities after evaluating his brother's Cyclone Magnum; this car remained his primary machine throughout the tournament. Subsequent Sonic series cars include the Buster Sonic, Blitzer Sonic, Great BlastSonic, and the Rodeo Sonic, a 30th-anniversary model redesign.
Decades later in *Return Racers*, he works in space development, a career path recommended by Dr. Tsuchiya. Flashbacks within this series revisit his earlier racing career, featuring cars like the Hurricane Sonic and Great BlastSonic. His core traits of responsibility, strategic thinking, and a calm demeanor persist into adulthood. His relationship with his brother involves frequent arguments underpinned by mutual care and a shared belief in fair competition without destructive tactics. His analytical approach is exemplified by consulting Dr. Ogami to learn technical secrets for developing the Hurricane Sonic, aware Ogami would see it as a chance to prove his battle machines' superiority, though Retsu had no intention of building such a machine.
He harbors an intense, narratively justified fear of ghosts. Across all media, his character consistently highlights his role as the responsible sibling, a natural leader focused on team success, and a racer whose machines evolve while maintaining their hallmark cornering prowess.
