Arisa Andō

Description
Arisa Andō was a Japanese voice actor active from the early 1980s until her retirement in the early 2000s. She was born on March 3, 1961, in Tokyo. Her interest in voice acting was sparked in high school after watching reruns of anime such as Space Battleship Yamato. Following a year of preparatory studies, she enrolled in the training institute of the Tokyo Actors' Cooperative Society (Haikyo), graduating as part of the 10th class.

Her professional voice acting debut came in 1983 with her first major role as the heroine Fubuki Kyoko in the television anime Gyakuten! Ippatsuman. The following year, she took on the role of Airi in the original Fist of the North Star television series, a character she would reprise in subsequent films and OVAs. In the latter half of the 1980s, Andō became a familiar presence in the burgeoning original video animation (OVA) market. One of her notable roles from this period was Sepia in the influential 1985 science fiction horror OVA Fight! Iczer-One. In the series, Sepia serves as the partner to the antagonist Iczer-Two, piloting the mecha Iczer-Sigma. This role placed her among the cast of a landmark work in the OVA medium.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Andō built a substantial body of work across television, film, and OVAs. She frequently collaborated with a consistent group of voice actors and directors. Her film credits include roles in movies such as the 1987 anime film Wicked City and the 1989 live-action film adaptation孔雀王2: 幻影城 (Peacock King 2: The Phantom Castle). She was also a regular in OVA productions, with roles including Ashura in the 1988-1989 OVA series孔雀王 (Peacock King), Kendappa-oh in the 1991-1992 adaptation of CLAMP's RG Veda, and Holy Joestar in the 1993-1994 OVA JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Her television work in the 1990s included parts in popular series such as the antagonist Kiwaku in an arc of Sailor Moon R and the role of the mother of the protagonist, Ogasawara Yūnosuke, in the first television adaptation of Chibi Maruko-chan.

Andō was known for her collaborations with numerous prominent figures in the anime industry. She worked frequently with director Toyoo Ashida on projects like the Fist of the North Star series and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Her frequent co-stars included actors Takeshi Aono, Yūsaku Yara, and Tesshō Genda, among many others.

A unique achievement in her career predates her voice acting debut. As a devoted fan of Space Battleship Yamato, her poem was selected for use as the lyrics for the ending theme of the 1980 film Be Forever Yamato. The song, titled Saraba, was performed by Akira Fuse and later used as an ending theme for the Space Battleship Yamato III television series. Andō retired from the voice acting industry in the early 2000s.
