Description
Airi is the younger sister of Rei, a master of the Nanto Seiken martial arts style. Her life is tragically altered on the day of her intended wedding, when the villainous Jagi and his gang attack the ceremony. During this assault, her parents and her groom are killed, all the guests are massacred, and Airi herself is kidnapped. Jagi subsequently sells her into slavery, beginning a period of immense suffering for her.

Unable to endure the horrors she witnesses while in captivity, Airi takes the drastic step of pouring a medicine or poison into her own eyes, rendering herself blind. This act is a direct result of her traumatic experiences, representing her desire to escape from the reality of her situation. When she is first encountered by her brother Rei and the protagonist Kenshiro, she is being held as a hostage by the Fang Clan, a group that uses her to manipulate Rei. In her despair, she attempts to bite off her own tongue to commit suicide, rather than be used as a tool to cause her brother further pain.

After Kenshiro defeats the King of the Fang Clan, he uses his knowledge of pressure points to restore Airi's eyesight, allowing her to see again. This physical healing coincides with the beginning of her emotional recovery. Her personality, initially defined by weakness and passivity, undergoes a significant transformation. She is deeply inspired by the courage of a young girl named Rin, who shows unwavering defiance in the face of oppression from the army of the warlord Raoh. Moved by Rin's example, Airi finds her own inner strength and takes up a crossbow to fight back against Raoh's soldiers, demonstrating a newfound will to live and protect herself.

The most important relationship in Airi's life is with her brother, Rei. His entire journey is defined by his search for her, having abandoned his own path as a successor to his martial art to find his lost sister. Her rescue and subsequent recovery allow Rei to face his own destiny and final battle. Airi survives where her brother does not, and after Rei's death, she lives on in Mamiya's village, where she is responsible for tending to her brother's grave. Airi does not possess any notable martial arts abilities or superhuman strength; her primary power is her resilience. Her notable abilities include her skill with a crossbow, which she learns to use effectively in her village's defense, and her capacity for profound personal growth, transforming from a broken victim into a survivor capable of standing on her own.
