Description
Naoki Shinjo entered the 10th Cyber Formula World Grand Prix as Japan's most promising rookie driver. He seized his first pole position, podium, and race victory each one race ahead of rival Hayato Kazami. This early momentum faltered due to self-destructive incidents in rounds 3, 5, and 6, culminating in a demotion to the Aoi team's B-squad for the Africa Grand Prix. This pivotal moment shattered his arrogance, previously evident in sarcastic remarks towards Kazami and team principal Kyoko Aoi, forcing a profound change in attitude.

His career became marked by extreme performance swings and persistent bad luck. Post-demotion, he battled reckless driving and a tendency to blame his mechanics for failures. This destructive cycle only broke after interventions from Miki Jounouchi and Jotaro Kaga forced him to confront his flaws. Despite setbacks, he displayed resilience. Dismissed from Aoi by new owner Nagumo just before the 15th championship (SAGA), he relocated to the United States with Miki Jounouchi for rigorous training. He returned mid-season during the 15th championship's Japanese Grand Prix, driving for Union Savior. There, he secured a defining victory against Nagumo's formidable Al-Zard, establishing himself as a consistent podium contender.

Shinjo raced for Aoi Formula (2015-2019), Union Savior (2020-2022), and later rejoined Aoi ZIP Formula (from 2023). His driving reputation earned him shifting nicknames: "genius," "humble genius," "young warrior," and rival Henri Clayton's derisive "fleeing soldier." His core pride often drew comparisons to fellow driver Phil Fritz.

Beyond racing, Shinjo possesses specialized skills in the tea ceremony, stemming from his family's position as heads of a tea school. Additional proficiencies include skiing and jet skiing. His relationship with Sugo team chief mechanic Miki Jounouchi evolved into a central personal and professional partnership. They became indispensable to each other on and off the track, their bond deepening into mutual romantic feelings. This relationship provided stability during tumultuous phases, notably after his move to the US and subsequent return to top competition.
