Description
Hayato Kazami serves as the main protagonist throughout most of the Future GPX Cyber Formula series, his background and development unfolding across multiple seasons and OVAs. His journey into Cyber Formula racing began unexpectedly when he recovered the Asurada GSX prototype car from thieves. This act locked his driving data into the car's cyber system, compelling his registration as Team Sugo's official driver despite lacking any prior racing experience. At age 14, he became the youngest competitor in Cyber Formula history during the 2015 season.

Hayato experienced rapid success and significant challenges early on. He clinched his debut World Championship in 2015 with three victories and six podium finishes, overcoming technical hurdles like a mid-season switch from the Asurada GSX to the Super Asurada 01. He secured a second consecutive championship in 2016 following a season-long duel with rival Knight Schumacher (Osamu Sugo), winning narrowly in the final race in Japan. In 2017, he dominated initial races but suffered a near-fatal crash during the British GP after discovering the high-focus "Zero-Realm" ability. This forced his temporary retirement, resulting in a third-place finish for the season.

Returning for the 2018 season, Hayato overcame the psychological trauma from the Zero-Realm accident with support from his fiancée, Asuka Sugo. He mastered the ability to consistently enter the Zero Zone, winning his third championship in 2020 driving the v-Asurada AKF-0. A fourth title followed in 2021, where he set a record with 76 championship points. His driving style evolved to incorporate advanced techniques like the Inertial Drift and Lifting Turn, rendering him nearly unbeatable under optimal conditions.

During the 2022 season (depicted in SIN), Hayato contended with severe mechanical issues plaguing the Asurada, retiring from five of the first eight races due to transmission failures despite winning the other three. He narrowed the points gap by the 11th race but entered the final round trailing Bleed Kaga. Their rivalry intensified into a direct confrontation during this race. On the final lap, Hayato nearly overtook Kaga using the Lifting Turn, but Kaga's OGRE vehicle unexpectedly adjusted its power output, securing Kaga's victory by a razor-thin margin. Hayato lost the championship by two points, marking his first defeat in a title-deciding finale. He accepted the loss gracefully, reflecting his maturation from earlier hot-headedness.

Hayato's personality transitioned from a bright yet reckless rookie to a relaxed but fiercely determined champion. Early traits included impulsiveness, an aversion to defeat, and occasional selfishness during slumps. His relationship with childhood friend Asuka Sugo, evolving into romance, provided emotional stability; they married after the events of SIN. Rivalries, particularly with Kaga, transformed from hostility into mutual respect, though their competitive intensity never diminished. Despite setbacks, Hayato continued racing beyond SIN, maintaining his legacy as a multiple championship winner.
