Description
Tsubame Tsubakura, also known as Terry McScotty in English adaptations, is a core character in the Battle B-Daman series. He is introduced at age 10, standing 130 cm tall with light blue hair, blue eyes, and tanned skin. His typical yellow outfit features short white pants, a red scarf, a blue cape, and a sword, contributing to an androgynous appearance that occasionally causes initial gender misconceptions.
Born into the noble Tsubakura warrior clan in Tsubakura City, he trains rigorously in ninja skills from a young age under his father, Sanjuurou, and mother, Sari. His parents intentionally taught him a Scottish accent as a tactical measure to confuse opponents, a trait preserved in the English dub. He carries a strong sense of duty, shaped by his family's emphasis on vigilance and combat readiness.
Tsubame displays kindness, honesty, and maturity, often serving as the most level-headed member of Yamato Delgado's group. He excels in survival skills and takes responsibility for cooking during the group's travels, though his culinary efforts sometimes face criticism. His dedication to friends and obligations is unwavering, frequently prioritizing their safety over his own.
His journey as a B-DaPlayer starts with the B-Daman Wing Ninja. Early challenges include a pivotal semi-final match against Li Yong Fa of the Shadow Alliance, where Wing Ninja is sabotaged. Repaired with spare parts, it enables Tsubame to unlock his signature Strike Shot, "Wing Fury," securing victory. During the Five Field Challenges, he meets Sly, who mentors him in cooking and B-Daman techniques, particularly the Shield Stage. Though initially defeated by Sly, the experience boosts his confidence and refines his strategy.
In the Elite Eight tournament, Tsubame faces Sigma (later revealed as Liena); her mimicry tactics lead to his disqualification. He later helps defend Gray Michael Vincent's hometown, Wintune, against the Shadow Alliance's Longhorn Gang, showcasing teamwork with Bull Borgnine to defeat the operative Goldo using combined Strike Shots. His resilience is further shown during the Neo Shadow Alliance arc, aiding in liberating occupied villages and confronting operative Enjyu in his hometown. Wing Ninja is destroyed in this battle, prompting Tsubame to dive into B-Daman Lake for legendary parts. He rebuilds his B-Daman into Wing Sword Thunder using a Blaster Core skeleton provided by his mentor, Joe.
In the series' second season, Tsubame discovers a Strike Shot called the Random Shot. Antagonist Haja steals it during a confrontation, destroying his B-Daman. He subsequently acquires a new B-Daman, HudoFudoMaru, and the Split Shot Strike Shot. His growth this season includes honing rapid-fire abilities during challenges at Meowtra Temple, though he initially struggles to score points in tests.
Trivia notes include his birthday on June 6 (Gemini zodiac), blood type O, enjoyment of taiyaki, and use of green B-DaBalls. His development across the series highlights his evolution from a disciplined but inexperienced warrior to a resilient and strategically adaptable B-DaPlayer, consistently emphasizing loyalty and perseverance.
