Description
Knight D'Eon de Beaumont, known as Eon, served King Louis XV of France. Following the mysterious death of his sister, Lia de Beaumont – her body discovered in a casket floating down the Seine marked with the word "Psalms" in blood – D'Eon vowed to investigate her murder. Early in his quest, he became possessed by Lia's vengeance-driven spirit. This spirit manifested during combat or intense emotion, granting him heightened combat prowess and a more feminine physicality. The possession triggered gradual physical changes in D'Eon, including increasingly feminine features and lengthening hair, reflecting the merging of their identities.

Commissioned directly by King Louis XV, D'Eon's mission focused on recovering the Royal Psalms, a potent occult text tied to Lia's death and a wider conspiracy fomenting political upheaval across Europe. The Psalms held magical incantations capable of reanimating the dead as gargoyle-like creatures and manipulating the living, wielded by revolutionaries called Poets. D'Eon journeyed across France, Russia, and England alongside three companions: Robin, the Queen's page; Durand, a fellow spy with ambiguous loyalties; and Teillagory, D'Eon's former fencing instructor. This group adopted the informal moniker "Four Musketeers."

Throughout his travels, D'Eon wrestled with the psychological and physical toll of Lia's possession. Her spirit frequently seized control during battles, pursuing vengeance against her killers, while D'Eon fought the erosion of his own self. The merging of their souls intensified, causing D'Eon to experience Lia's memories and emotions, particularly concerning her past romantic relationship with Maximilien Robespierre – later revealed as her half-brother. This connection complicated D'Eon's mission as Robespierre emerged as a key antagonist, using the Psalms to incite revolution.

The climax unfolded at Versailles, where D'Eon confronted the full scope of the conspiracy involving the Royal Psalms and betrayal within the French court. During the final confrontation, he fully integrated Lia's spirit, achieving a complete transformation that embodied both siblings' resolve. This unification allowed him to resolve the central conflict surrounding the Psalms and the political instigation. In the aftermath, D'Eon accepted his merged identity, living out his life with a synthesized persona reflecting both his essence and Lia's.
