Description
Cheese, a small, light brown dog with short rabbit-like ears and a dark brown tail tip, makes his home in the bakery after being rescued as a starving puppy by Anpanman during an early-morning forest patrol. Batako, a bakery worker, bestowed his name.

Originally walking on four legs, he gradually transitions to a bipedal stance while maintaining canine habits like curling into a loaf shape in his doghouse. His exceptional olfactory skills let him track scents precisely, and his intelligence allows him to comprehend human speech, aid in driving vehicles, and deliver Anpanman’s replacement heads.

He blends courage with humor, often rushing headlong into peril to help others yet displaying playful laziness when dodging chores. Cheese frequently detects crises first, acting as the initial responder. Though he communicates through barks, companions decipher his intent through context and long-standing rapport.

Some tales briefly feature him speaking with “woof”-punctuated phrases, later abandoned. He harbors affection for Rare Cheese, a cheesecake-based character. His origins—centered on his rescue and steadfast loyalty to Anpanman and the bakery—remain consistent across all portrayals.
