Lalabel is a young magical girl who originates from a separate magical world. Her journey into the human world begins when she encounters a thief named Biscus, who steals magical tools and causes her to accidentally fall from her own realm. She is discovered unconscious by an elderly couple, Sakuzo and Ume Tachibana, who believe she is an orphan and decide to take her in. She later attends the local school alongside their granddaughter, Teruko Teko Takemura, and her friend Toshiko Toko Matsumiya. Her primary motivation is to retrieve the stolen magical items and stop Biscus from causing further trouble. She is kind-hearted, curious, and gradually develops a deeper understanding of human emotions and social bonds. Throughout the story, she balances her duty as a magical girl with her growing attachment to the people around her. In the film, Lalabel, Teko, and Toko spend the summer vacation at a hostel owned by Teko's uncle. When the uncle and aunt leave to attend to an acquaintance, their son Ryota is left to manage the hostel alone. Lalabel decides to help him, and together the group becomes involved in running the establishment. Her relationships with the Tachibana couple provide her with a stable home, while her friendships with Teko and Toko allow her to experience everyday human life. Her dynamic with Biscus shifts from adversarial to cooperative as she persistently pursues him, eventually contributing to his reformation. Over time, Lalabel matures emotionally, and by the end of the series, both she and Biscus lose their magical powers, choosing to remain fully human. Notable abilities include transforming into her magical girl form, which grants her enhanced powers. She uses a magic wand disguised as a pendant and utters the phrase belalalula to activate her spells. She also carries a magical briefcase that contains her tools. A small magical companion, often described as a bird-like creature named Chacha or a cat, assists her in her adventures. Additionally, she keeps a diary where she writes proverbs, reflecting on her experiences and growing wisdom.
