Description
Jet Link, designated Cyborg 002, started as an Italian-American teenager on New York City's West Side. His delinquent youth involved gang leadership, culminating in accidentally killing a rival member during a street fight. Fleeing police, he was intercepted by Black Ghost operatives who promised escape but abducted him for cyborg experimentation. Initially slated as prototype 001, he became 002 when Ivan Whisky displayed superior psychic abilities. Jet received extensive modifications: jet boosters in his feet enabling Mach 5 flight and a prototype Acceleration module, though its instability and short duration caused flaws. Technical failures led to his cryogenic freezing alongside cyborgs 001, 003, and 004 until solutions emerged.
Jet exhibits a brash, hot-tempered, and rebellious personality, frequently clashing with teammates through sarcasm and outspokenness—traits rooted in his street upbringing and distrust of authority, especially toward deceptive Black Ghost. Despite this, he shows fierce loyalty to fellow cyborgs and Dr. Gilmore, with a protective instinct toward children. This stems from guilt over failing to shield street kids from bullies during his human life, later reflected in his bond with a New York boy named Jimmy. His emotional complexity includes a brief romantic attraction to terminally ill Eva Klein; her suicide left enduring trauma.
In *Legend of the Super Galaxy*, Jet returned to civilian life in New York after Black Ghost's initial defeat, battling unemployment and isolation until befriending Jimmy. He rejoined the cyborg team against cosmic threat Zoa. During this mission, his dynamic with Albert Heinrich (004) highlighted mutual trust: Jet confided his anguish over perpetual warfare, while Albert shared grief for his deceased fiancée Hilda. Jet plunged into despair when Albert seemingly sacrificed himself via self-detonation against Zoa's forces, triggering an outcry over Albert dying "alone." Relief followed when Albert survived, prompting a public embrace.
Beyond the film, Jet's story spans other media. In the *Underground Empire of Yomi* manga arc, he nearly died sacrificing himself to save 009 during orbital reentry, surviving only through Ivan’s last-minute teleportation. The OVA *Conclusion: GOD’S WAR* saw Ivan unlock Jet's latent psychic powers, enhancing his flight to light-speed and igniting objects in his wake. He also appeared in *Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman*, battling High-Teen cyborgs and confronting Eva Klein illusions induced by demon Lilith.
His core abilities encompass high-speed aerial combat via foot boosters, expert marksmanship—often dual-wielding guns—and limited super-speed bursts using the flawed prototype Accelerator. Physically, he has bright red windswept hair, a prominent nose, and wears a military-style uniform, depicted in deep blue with a red scarf in *Conclusion: GOD’S WAR*.
