Description
Cyborg 006, known in civilian life as Chang Changku, originates from China. His life before being taken by the Black Ghost organization differs across various versions of the story, but it is consistently rooted in personal hardship. In the context of the 1966 film Cyborg 009: Monster Wars, he was a poor farmer whose repeated failures with his crops drove him into a state of deep despair. In other adaptations, he is also depicted as a talented chef and restaurant owner whose business was destroyed in an accidental fire caused by his own fire-breathing trick. Regardless of the specific origin, it was during his moment of greatest vulnerability, having lost his livelihood and hope, that Black Ghost agents found him and forcibly took him to be converted into a cyborg soldier.

Chang Changku possesses a jovial, friendly, and expressive personality, which makes him a vital source of morale for his fellow cyborgs. He is known for being bright, chatty, and sometimes goofy, often providing comic relief alongside the youngest member of the team, Cyborg 007. Despite his cheerful and rotund appearance, he has a serious side, particularly when matters involve cooking, an area in which he is both skilled and strict. His focus on food is a prominent trait, as he frequently thinks about preparing the next meal for the group, using his abilities and knowledge to create dishes even from unconventional ingredients found in hiding places like caves. Unlike some of his teammates who struggle with their transformation, Chang generally does not angst about his status as a cyborg, accepting his situation with a relaxed and pragmatic attitude.

The primary motivation for Cyborg 006, like the rest of his team, is to fight against the Black Ghost organization that created them. He uses his unique abilities to protect his new family and prevent Black Ghost from carrying out its plans for global domination and warfare. His role within the team is multi-faceted. He serves as an anti-ballistic and anti-personnel fighter on the front lines, using his fire breath to attack enemies and destroy obstacles. He also acts as the team's tunnel-digger, capable of melting through solid rock and earth to create escape routes or paths for infiltration. Outside of combat, his most important role is that of the team's chef, a position that nurtures their physical health and provides emotional comfort, helping to maintain their humanity.

In the Cyborg 009: Monster Wars film, Cyborg 006's key relationships are primarily with his teammates. He forms part of a comic duo with the younger Cyborg 007, often bickering with him or trying to keep the boy out of trouble, while simultaneously showing a deep, underlying trust in him. Across different adaptations, his closest friend is typically 007, and in some stories, the two even run a restaurant together after gaining their freedom. He is also seen to have a love-hate relationship with Cyborg 007 (Great Britain), where he acts as a serious foil to the older cyborg's laid-back personality and is often the target of his teasing. While the 1966 film does not feature significant character development for him, his place in the narrative is essential for both the team's survival strategy and their emotional well-being. His unwavering demeanor helps ground the group amidst their battles against the monstrous threats they face.

The most notable ability of Cyborg 006 is his power to breathe intense torrents of fire from his mouth. This flame can reach temperatures of up to 3,000 degrees Celsius, making it hot enough to melt almost any known substance, including solid rock and man-made materials. This power is not only an effective weapon but also a practical tool for digging tunnels by melting the ground in front of him. His cybernetic body is also highly resistant to heat, allowing him to withstand enormous firestorms and explosions that would destroy ordinary humans. Beyond his combat capabilities, Chang Changku is a master chef and a skilled cook, a talent he uses to unite his team and one that points back to the peaceful life he once led before being transformed into a weapon.
