Description
Kaos is a wandering monk-like figure who aids young warriors against supernatural threats. He commands the Kaos clan, a lineage dedicated to guiding humanity toward goodness, with each generation potentially yielding an exceptionally powerful leader in times of dire need to defend the world from evil.

Approximately 1,000 years ago, Kaos shattered the demonic entity Arago, who sought to conquer Heian-kyo (Kyoto) with dark forces. Unable to destroy Arago utterly, Kaos secured the entity's armor within an underground residence beneath the city. Recognizing the armor's lingering evil was ineradicable, Kaos performed mystical rituals involving a fire ceremony, possibly of Buddhist or Shinto origin. He reforged Arago's armor into nine distinct sets. To counter the armor's inherent corruption, Kaos imbued each set with a specific human virtue—five tied to elements and four to seasons or spiritual concepts. These armors were entrusted to nine powerful Japanese families for safeguarding, though guardianship may have shifted over centuries. One armor, Kongo, journeyed to China before returning in the 1500s, while another, Tenku, was nearly freed when its temple was destroyed during World War II. The rest remained sealed in chests until awakening for their true bearers.

Centuries later, sensing Arago's resurgence, Kaos reemerged to guide five young warriors who inherited the elemental armors. He offered counsel at critical junctures, often accompanied by a white tiger named Byakuen who located the warriors. Kaos wielded a spiritual tool called a Shakujo, a tin staff potentially originating from his ancient sword's handle. His appearance featured a cone-shaped wicker hat obscuring his face, and he blended Buddhist and Shinto practices, employing Buddhist-style chants and carrying a Shinto medicine bag. This syncretism suggests inspiration from the Shugendo sect, a militant order of mountain ascetics known for mysticism and combating evil spirits.

During the final confrontation with Arago, Kaos supported the warriors as they unified their armors into the Kikoutei (Sun Armor), channeling pure energy to banish the demon. In subsequent events, including the OVAs, Kaos maintained his oversight. He ultimately passed his guardian role to Shuten, one of the reformed former warlords, ensuring the world's ongoing protection. His legacy endured through the virtues embedded in the armors and the warriors who wielded them.
