Description
Stig Bernard was born on Mars during humanity's colonization era and had no firsthand exposure to Earth before his military career. At Mars Base Academy, he idolized Major Johnathan, a veteran of the First Earth Recapture Mission. Bernard formed a romantic bond with Marlene, proposing aboard the Horizon-T shuttle en route to the Second Earth Recapture Mission.
This mission collapsed catastrophically when Inbit forces annihilated the fleet during atmospheric entry. Marlene died in the assault, while Bernard crash-landed in South America among sparse survivors. Stranded and traumatized, he panicked upon encountering Earth's unfamiliar elements—especially rain and thunderstorms. A holographic recording from Marlene's pendant fortified him emotionally to pursue his objective. Consumed by vengeance for her death and duty to free Earth, Bernard resolved to infiltrate Reflex Point, the Inbit's North American hive.
During his trek, Bernard gathered resistance fighters: Ray, a resourceful scavenger; Houquet, an ex-motorcycle gang member; Jim Warston, a Mars Base deserter tormented by survivor's guilt; Mint, a young orphan; and Yellow Belmont, a soldier posing as a female singer. Bernard emerged as the group's de facto leader, though his rigid, duty-obsessed demeanor—fueled by hatred for the Inbit—sparked friction with members prioritizing survival or personal aims. His military-centric leadership often conflicted with pragmatic or emotional teammates.
A turning point came when Bernard met Aisha, an amnesiac humanoid Invid. Initially distrustful of her alien nature, he developed complex feelings as she aided the group with empathy, fracturing his monolithic view of Inbit as enemies. Concurrent revelations exposed the Inbits' motive: exploiting Earth's environment for evolution inadvertently triggered mutual extinction. Bernard's goal pivoted from military triumph to brokering peace. With Aisha and another humanoid Invid, Solzie, he convinced the hive queen Refless to abandon Earth, averting annihilation.
The OVA "Love, Live, Alive"—centered on Yellow Belmont's concerts—confirms Bernard's survival post-conflict and his role in Earth's reconstruction. His enduring bond with Aisha marked his evolution from vengeful soldier to advocate of peace and coexistence.
